"Ne... Nishizawa-san—"
"Sawada... you know, I don't mind you calling me by my first name or something—"
"Eh! No...no, that's... too bold—" said the girl, blushing profusely...
"It's okay. I mean... Maki-san also called me like that—", said Ryo, his face equally coloured. The other girl sitting beside the two started to laugh.
"Honestly, you two are so adorable! Enough with the shyness already... no wonder Yamashita-kun worried about you too much!"
Ryo immediately turned towards Maki.
"Eh, what?"
The girl grinned at him before making a mini salute.
"Let me introduce myself to you, Ryo-kun," said the girl playfully. "I'm now your personal bodyguard in this class. Eri-chan here is your second bodyguard! We'll take care of you and help you get used to the new class environment!"
Ryo's face turned a deeper shade of crimson as Maki settled back to her chair.
"Baka... that's—what kind of silly thing that guy thought up—"
"Ano ne... Ryo-kun, I guess that's what friends are for. They look out for each other. Yamashita-kun really cared about you, come to think... these few years, I often see him hanging out with Kame-chan and he also look out for him. I guess, those other friends that he used to bring along to hang out with Kame-chan should be your friend too... isn't it, Ryo-kun?"
"I guess... if those guys are who I think they are—"
"I'm actually grateful to him. Kame-chan doesn't like to go out so often... and it's going to be awkward if Kame-chan continued to hang out with just me—you know, he's my neighbour and we knew each other since little—so Aunty was really glad to see him getting a lot of friends. But honestly, it was so embarrassing that day when I saw Yamashita-kun overhearing us talking about you, Ryo-kun..."
Ryo grinned sheepishly at that memory as he remembered how much he had been teased about it before. The two girls started giggling again as both recalled the embarrassing incident. Maki looked up at him again as she continued talking.
"That's why... Ryo-kun, I don't mind it when Yamashita-kun asked me to help watch over you. It's not really that much of a trouble, we're friends... right?"
Ryo smiled weakly.
"Yeah... but I guess, right now... me and him, gonna be awkward after this. This morning... I might have been a little harsh on him. He was worried about me... about some things at home, and I scolded him about it. I... not sure how I could make it up with him..."
Maki patted his shoulders as she smiled at him.
"Don't worry! Everything's gonna be fine! Leave it to me... I'll explain it to Yamashita-kun about your feelings. It's okay!"
Ryo grinned.
"Maki-san. Did you like Yamapi?"
The girl's face immediately flushed before laughing forcefully.
"W-w-what? N-n-n-no... what was that question?" Maki stuttered as she changed the topic. "Anyway... I couldn't help hearing this from Kame-chan. Ryo-kun... what was this with Yamashita-kun and his friends giving you the nickname Tsunderella?"
Ryo choked on his breath as his eyes started to dart elsewhere.
"Umm... that. That... was because... my late father used to remarry before, you know? When I'm still so little. So... when my father had died, instead of just my big brother... I also had a stepmother and two stepbrothers—"
"Ooh...," Erika gasped before noticing Ryo's hand crutch and remembering that nagging question that had always been bugging her mind ever since Ryo joined their class.
"Ano... talking about that... did what happen to your legs had anything to do with—you know, that nickname they gave you... I can't help noticing the pun on Cinderella—" Erika suddenly stuttered. "Ah, forget about that.... I shouldn't have asked—"
Ryo shook his head at her, "It's okay. You're not that far off..."
"I'm sorry to suddenly ask you about it," she said again apologetically. "I guess you'd want to just forget about such bad memories—"
"Well... yeah. But then again... stepmum... had been very ill... for a very long time. Because of that... I can't really..."
"Ah! Enough of this depressing talk," Maki suddenly cut in. "Eri-chan... you were about to ask Ryo-kun something... right?"
Ryo turned to face the girl as Erika fidgeted with her fingers.
"Ah... it's nothing. I mean... Nishizawa... kun, did you... somehow... write songs during your past time?"
Ryo's face was as red as hers as he shyly nodded his head.
"Unn... yeah. Most of it was kinda... cheesy, I guess. But yeah..."
Maki suddenly clapped her hands aloud as both of them jumped.
"Nice! One day you should play for us, I don't trust Yamashita-kun's boasting talk most of the times...," she said, winking to Ryo as she did. Ryo grinned at her as he nodded his head.
"Sure!"

Toyama Keiichiro fiddled with his phone as he stood in front of the facility. He wondered if his decision right now was appropriate. He had asked Shige and Ryo about it... and even to Hide, and they didn't seemed to mind it. But somehow, a part of him seemed to have some doubts about it. He lifted his phone as he started dialling the number and wanted for the call to be picked up. When it did, he sighed.
"Ano... Hide, do you think this was the right decision? I mean... today was just going to be a short visit, but I'm not sure if Ryo would really be fine about it."
"It should be fine, isn't it? I mean... even Ryo said that it was okay..."
"But you know what happened to him, and all this time... he had bear with it alone. I know it's not totally her fault either, given the circumstances—"
"We all will be by his side all the time as well, isn't it? And I think that it's the best decision we had so far—"
"You think so? If it's like that... I guess I'll have to put faith in it..."
"Yeah. See you later at home..."
Keii turned the phone off as he braced himself before entering the building...

The woman hugged him fondly before he took a seat beside her.
"Are you sure it's all right? For me to return to that place?"
Keii held the woman's hand lovingly before nodding his head.
"Of course... mother. You're our mother... and even if you're not related to Hide or Ryo, I'm sure they'd love you the same."
Toyama Yuko rocked her body back and forth.
"Hideaki-kun... such a good child. Doing all this for me... even after what I did to him, and Ryo-kun. Ryo-kun... I've treated him so badly, I don't know how to apologize to him for what I've done. The poor child..."
"Time should heal... I think if you could tell him how sorry you feel... I think Ryo would be able to understand."
The woman smiled weakly as she recalled that memory that seemed to never stop haunting her. The memory of that day... the day when she had pushed Ryo down that hateful stairs. The day when she had almost killed his stepson twice—because she had gone mad with fear. Fear of losing that one child that she thought would leave her alone by herself as well. She could never forget that day. The way that Ryo's body had rolled down the stair and landed on that hard marble floor—the sound of Ryo's head hitting the floor kept resounding in her ears. She had kept on apologizing to the child as Ryo kept on staring blankly at her. She couldn't express how much regret she had felt then when she saw blood oozing out from Ryo's head...
The silent tears that Ryo had shed that time... she could never erase that image from her memories...
Keii waved his hand over his mother's face as he called out to her.
"Mum? Are you all right?"
Yuko turned back towards her son as she reached out to touch his face.
"Keii? I'm fine. Keii... mother was so sorry to you and your brother as well. I'm such a bad mother to Nishizawa-san's sons... as well to both you and Shigeaki. I'm so sorry to have hit you before..."
Keii wiped the tears that suddenly flow from his eyes as he shook his head.
"Mum... hadn't I said it before? It's all right. You had been very sick before... so I hadn't blamed you for the past. You should also try to forgive yourself, mother. We all are trying to live a new life now... aren't we?"
The woman burst into tears as she pulled her oldest son into an embrace.
"I'm sorry... Keii. I'm sorry for everything. I love you so much... I'm sorry it took me so long to finally realize it!"
Keii nodded. Yes, it was time for all of them to begin a new life. The past won't be forgotten fully... but that doesn't mean that they should let it rule their lives forever.
He just hoped... that nothing else would come to tarnish this new life that they had only just begun to start...

Awww.... shucks. XD
Pairings... huh? I kinda like the prospect about love transcends borders... or what ever shit that was... and not just love towards one destined pair. This chapter actually hints on two of it... and ... I kinda liked Aya Oomasa's character portrayal for Sunako in YamaNade.... I probably biased to that on another coupling. hahahahhahaha. I'm not pairing out all the guys in my fics. XD
Even then... since romance is not the main focus of this piece, as is for Tsunderella, I don't think I would touch much on it. Aside from the fact that I suck at romance hahahahaha XD. Het pairing of course, I'm not much of a Yaoi fan as compared to BL... and that also was mostly shounen-ai in its purest meaning. XD

(Anonymous) 2010-02-24 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)Too bad for me though... since I like slash pairings, or hinted. ^^'
