It's been a while since I've watched any Korean dramas, much less a sageuk or period dramas. Last time I did it either on the horror stories, epic length period drama and some others; though some didn't manage to follow constantly due to tv being controlled by kids. I think I conidered it my luck that I manage to see Chuno while it still airing in KBS World.

Chuno/The Slave Hunter

Chuno follows the story of Lee Dae Gil, a man of high birth whose family was ruined when Keunnom, a slave, burnt down his house and escaped with his sister, Eonnyeon, who was in love with Dae Gil. Driven by his desire for revenge, he survived his harsh years on the street and made his name as a slave hunter, dedicated in his pursuit to find Un Nyun, his first and only love. Song Tae Ha is a General of the Army who became a slave after being falsely accused of a crime he did not commit, and finds himself on the run from Dae Gil's relentless pursuit. Both men become entangled in a love triangle with Un Nyun, who is no longer a runaway slave, but Kim Hye Won, a nobleman's daughter.

That's the basic premise, though I don't get why some sites I see state Keunnom as Won Ki yoon.... cos that's like the name of the con-government slave from Eopbok's faction XD

Aside from the political plot in the story, can't help noticing that yet again fans were too obsessed with pairings and on who should be with who, which end with the unfavourable character being bashed badly. Or how some argued the other character being underdeveloped or underplayed, I mean...

And lastly, I saw a post bashing Hyewon/Eonnyeon. Sigh.

That aside, one other side protagonist that should not be forgotten was EopbokRead more... )

People say Daegil's end was heartbreaking but personally, I cried more during the final moments of each of Taeha's subordinates (esp. Hanseom) while trying to fight off their enemies to their deaths. And it's interesting that Daegil seemed to take over the position Hwang Cheolwong used to be when he used to fight alongside Tae Ha. And while people argued that Daegil should have end up with Eonnyeon because he had faced a lot of adversity, if judging from that; Tae Ha deserved it more. The only few people Daegil had lost had been his family, Cheon Jiho... and Choi and Wongsun end up not dead. While Tae Ha had lost his family, his men, mentor, master, alies, friends... and being betrayed by former friends; even if he's a soldier trained to face such adversity that's not something you face so easily. You'd want Taeha to at least get a happy ending... (and Daegil with Seolhwa, yet we won't get that~)

And the contrast of character between Daegil and Taeha was nice to see. And haha... this post end up being a sort of character study. I'd type more... but those thoughts might just end up in my fanfics. Nicer in that form~
