I really love this drama! I mean people used to say Hwarang was bad but aside from some endgame plot that I'm not really fond of, that drama was okay. The same would I say about this drama. I mean, I've been waiting for a new drama where Hyungsik would play another royal prince character and lo, WE GOT IT! And this time, his character has a higher likelihood to get the girl SINCE HE'S THE MAIN LEAD GUY!๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Anyway, since this drama more or less was based on a Chinese novel... some plot might be predictable to those who are familiar with the novel. Or maybe not, since it's a kdrama some elements of the original novel would've been changed to suit the sageuk theme. That should be quite interesting to see regardless.

Long time since I've seen Rain in any dramas so I forgot how charming and funny he could be. I certainly didn't expect to really love this drama which was basically a medical Rattatoulle drama with coma ghost instead of a rat.

The series was pretty okay. This second season is basically what the plot could've been if Jinhyuk, Daeshik and Hyunho had returned/remained on the main team instead of just Eunsoo during the events of Voice 2.

Found out about this drama by chance and really liking what I'm watching. Plus there's Kim Namgil as one of the main leads so that's one plus point. Plot reminds me of many anime series that involved demon slaying with people creating half-demon warriors in order to gain advantage over the enemy.

Overall, the plot is interesting and the pacing is okay. While I could see some argue that the pacing was slow, I didn't really have any trouble with that. The pacing right now was fine to allow people to know the basic setting and establishing the characters. That said, I do wish that this first part was a bit longer. While the plot between Van and Miho was so far pretty solid, I feel like the writer kinda neglecting Johan's character a bit. As in, a lot of time he was shown to be doing something in the background and we didn't really know anything about it until the last two episodes. And it felt that the involvement of the Vatican (?) exorcists was like a side plot to the main story since Van was the one mostly dealing with the lust demon while Johan not really functioning much aside from trying to oust Van from his protector role. While I do appreciate the occassional flashback to explain the origin on how Van end up being a half-demon, I do wish that there was a scene in the present where they address the issue. Especially when Van didn't become a half-demon by choice. And I wish the writers actually spend more time to explain to us what exactly is the lust demons and what it has to do with the opening line in the first episode.

Anyway, I like the casting. While Eunwoo was pretty cute as an exorcist priest, my attention was mostly on Kim Namgil as the emo half-demon Van. Gotta say that Van was giving off a bit of Bidam vibe that it felt somewhat nostalgic. Lee Dahee is pretty okay as Won Miho/Wonjeong. Since her character was a reincarnated person who was supposed to be a key person for fixing the barrier to seal the lust demons from running free, it was pretty understandable to see her in panic and in confusion when she end up being targeted by all these monsters. Frankly she's doing well playing a character who was suddenly thrust into an unbelievable situation. And boy, she's really good at running on high heels a lot โค

Since I'm used to watching tokusatsu shows, I'm fine with seeing all the CGI at work in the drama. And the monster makeup were quite decently made. I have to praise the action coordination as it really pumps you up when watching the fight sequence. I like the ost track as well esp the main theme with the haunting and sorrowful vibe.

I usually tend to get distracted while watching dramas when a show try to info dump too much on the first episodes or drag the plot on unnecessary things but I didn't get sidetracked on other things while watching this drama. So I gotta say that so far the writer was doing a good job on keeping my attention on the show. I'll be looking forward to see the part 2 once it release next month.
I somehow managed to find a way to watch this SP so I might as well put down my thoughts on it. I seriously wished that there's an English translation version of the novel tho, so that I can read it. Somrhow the English novels skipped this one and release Silent Parade despite Forbidden Magic was set prior to the events in Silent Parade. Regardless, I'm kinda glad that this SP exist since there was that brief mention of Yukawa going to New York in Silent Parade.

While more Galileo live action adaptations are always welcomed, I do have some mixed feelings about it. It's quite obvious, of course since the reason was plain clear; I wished Utsumi was in this. I have nothing against Makimura to be honest, but the moment the character appear on screen I could tell that most of her characterism was based on Utsumi's template. Which was another reason why I wish it'd be possible to read the novel in English.

The case itself this time was still interesting. But unfortunately for Yukawa, this case also ended up having deep connection with him as one of his precious student was a possible suspect in a crime. Such thing had always been a sore wound to him ever since Ishigami, and obviously knowing his stance about how science should be use to enrich humanity he wouldn't like to see someone misuse it to harm others. And of course conflict will happen between him and Kusanagi due to their different opinions.

It was nice to be able to see Kuribayashi-san again, it was pretty amusing to see the old lab assistant fumble around to help Yukawa since we don't get to see him in Silent Parade. Overall, the SP was kinda neat. But I still wished that Utsumi was in this instead of Makimura (though I may understand why Shibasaki-san can't reprise her role as Utsumi in this SP)
After 9 years since Midsummer's Night, I was really delighted to see a new addition to the Detective Galileo series by Higashino Keigo-san. I really gonna start reading the novel once I get my hand on it.

What an enjoyable movie! I really missed seeing the trio together after so long and it was certainly a delight to find out that Higashino Keigo-san did release a new novel after Midsummer's equation. (Though I still wished publishers also pick up translating the other earlier novels, given how popular the series is)

Fukuyama Masaharu was still great as Professor Yukawa, bringing out the many charms of an eccentric physics professor who also had a taste in mystery deduction. It was also great to see Shibasaki Kou back as Utsumi, bringing back the old Yukawa-Utsumi dynamics that everyone loved dearly. And with Kitamura Kazuki reprising his role as Kusanagi, the ultimate trio is complete! Even more, I really appreciate this movie due to the fact that this is the first live action adaptation of the novel where both Kusanagi and Utsumi were taking their roles exactly as their novel counterparts (ie most of the drama plot for Utsumi before was originally written for Kusanagi while plots that include Utsumi in - after Higashino-san start writing her in due to drama's popularity - end up being pushed to Kishitani)

But of course, due to some changes in drama plot aka having Utsumi being sent away for training and slotting in Kishitani as her replacement, some of the writing would be affected to reflect that but the overall vibe of the movie was still okey.

As usual, Kusanagi and Utsumi were dealing with yet another complicated case and ended up needing the help of our reluctant physics professor who always tend to find himself in the middle of a case. And this time, Kusanagi had to confront an old case that once traumatised him so much.

I really love the trio's dynamics, and I especially love how Utsumi grew to become this bridge that's connecting Yukawa and Kusanagi and mediated between their relationship; as Yukawa and Kusanagi's friendship started to become strained due to the case.

The case was interesting as well as it featured a conflict faced by the police when they couldn't prosecute the suspect that they're sure to be guilty yet unable to prove the crime as the suspect kept their silence despite mounting evidence stacked against them. It also presents a dilemma when they have to investigate the victims of the crime who may have committed murder out of revenge due to the failure of the police to punish a criminal using the law.

The movie compiled a montage at the end in the credits featuring most of the trio's past scenes in drama and movies which I find to be very sweet.

So after so long we're getting a new Kindaichi drama with Michieda Shunsuke as the 5th gen Kindaichi. That means, I might as well made an additional post based on the comparison post that I used to make of the last 4 series of Kindaichi dramas. That said, I'm considering to revisit the older Kindaichi series just because. I'd make a proper review of Kindaichi 5 later once the last episode was released.

So onwards to Micchi's review!

Kindaichi 5th Gen - Michieda Shunsuke

Pros
- Cutest Kindaichi to date. Have to say that Micchi really won me over, enough for me to raise his ranking to my second fav live action Kindaichi.
- Likewise, I love Moka's Miyuki as well. After Tomosaka Rie, Kamishiraishi Moka really did carry the character really well.
- Since Season 5 did remake some of the cases that had appeared in Season 1, of course that meant that Itsuki-san made a comeback after so long!
- Kenmochi-ossan is so cool
- Saki got some upgrades in term of recording equipments
- OST by Kanematsu Shu & Saiki Tatsuhiko with special track by Mitake Akira (Mysterious Mallet 2022)

Cons
- No Akechi again. His part in Kindaichi the Killer case was transferred to Kenmochi-ossan. Drama do seem to hate on Akechi-san, isn't it? I really am thinking that there must be some kind of ban at place against having Akechi appear in the live action.

That said, my ranking on my fav casts playing the main characters slightly got changed. Basically, it can be summed up by this.

Hajime: Domoto Tsuyoshi > Michieda Shunsuke >Yamada Ryosuke > Matsumoto Jun > Kamenashi Kazuya  @ (1>5>4>2>3)

Miyuki: Tomosaka Rie > Kamishiraishi Moka > Kawaguchi Haruna > Anne Suzuki > Ueno Juri @ (1>5>4>2>3)

Kenmochi: Furuoya Masato > Sawamura Ikki > Naitou Takashi > Yamaguchi Tomomitsu > Kato Masaya @ (1>5>2>4>3)

Been a while since I've seen Jin Goo in dramas so it's a delight to see him in a new project. I haven't been watching anything with Jin Goo since Descendant of the Sun, so I might as well do it now.

The plot had the feel of Die Hard and 24 with a bit of a serial killer vibe on the side so I thought that this drama would be quite a thrill. Sadly though, the more I'm following each episode the more I feel that the drama was quite a letdown. Casting-wise I do still think that they were doing a good job within the scope of the drama though I have to say that I'm not quite impressed with the writing. In a way, the format of the drama being aired one episode per week may have an effect in lessening the suspense felt after each episode but the writing also did nothing much to improve the whole experience. I doubt even if one was to wait and marathon the episode at one go that it'd make any difference since the writing was THAT ridiculous.

It really felt as if the whole plot was written to be overly complicated unnecessarily just so that drama can have many ridiculous things happen within one whole day. But unfortunately, this was not the case for the drama. Arguably, some of the twists may be quite brilliant if executed properly. A lot of the time, many of the key scenes were poorly timed and choppily edited. And the whole 'superior' thing only really starts to crop up near the end as if the writer just remembered the title of the drama.

Honestly, I'm just watching the drama because of Jin Goo and Ha Dokwon and also because I might as well finish watching the show till the end since I already reached the end. Unless you don't mind feeling frustrated for the entire duration of the drama, you may need to think twice about watching this drama. Unless your faves are in here... maybe.
