The Truce at Bakura by Kathy Tyers

No sooner has Darth Vader's funeral pyre burned to ashes on Endor than the Alliance intercepts a call for help from a far-flung Imperial outpost. Bakura is on the edge of known space and the first to meet the Ssi-ruuk, cold-blooded reptilian invaders who, once allied with the now dead Emperor, are approaching Imperial space with only one goal; total domination. Princess Leia sees the mission as an opportunity to achieve a diplomatic victory for the Alliance. But it assumes even greater importance when a vision of Obi-Wan Kenobi appears to Luke Skywalker with the message that he must go to Bakura-or risk losing everything the Rebels have fought so desperately to achieve.

It's been six months since Return of the Jedi, and the Rebel Alliance has become the New Republic while the Empire is in the early stages of splitting into rival factions. Luke Skywalker is now General of the Rapid Response Task Force, a small fleet that the Republic sends as needed to patch up the front and execute special missions. Their current assignment: to track the forces of a theatrical and megalomaniacal Imperial warlord with the unlikely name of Lord Shadowspawn to his home base and bring him to justice. This base turns out to be on Mindor, a former vacation world devastated by repeated meteorite impacts.

When Luke tracks Shadowspawn's forces there, he gets drawn into a trap, as do Han, Leia, and Rogue Squadron who come after him, and Lando Calrissian and the gang of Mandalorian mercenaries who come after them. It turns out that a dark presence has been waiting on Mindor to make its move with a scheme that threatens not only Luke's life, but his very soul...

That said, I really don't get why the series even called the 'Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens' series. Because apart from the beginning and end of the novels which depict the characters (besides Luke) at the present time period prior to TFA, all the main stories were all revolving around the original trilogy timeline... while trying to shove in settings that don't quite fit or connect to the events in the original trilogy. You might as well just skip this series and just jump to Before the Awakening, Perfect Weapon if you're looking for more stories set around TFA. Or having any pre-TFA vibe. Like I wouldn't even mind a pre-TFA novel where it don't involve a flashback of an event 30+ years ago instead of the present. I mean I'd even read a story on how Han and Chewie went on Rakhtar smuggling business. Or have a story about Luke while not featuring Luke by focusing on how did the Resistance managed to retrieve Artoo and how the rest of the rebels AND Leia were worrying about him! Or have a story on how Leia had been trying to lead the Resistance without Luke and Han by her side. Anything's better than this!

Not gonna read Lost Star any time soon. Unless I needed to gather enough emotion to become a Sith.
Decided to put this separately. Because I don't want the rant to overshadow one review on a book I was currently reading. In which, this started to turn into a rant on the Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awaken series.

Just decided to dump everything together. And compile all the Rebel Force set review all in one post. Never thought I could love the series so much.

Ha.

You know as much as I wanted to do a big dissertation on Leia, I'm that lazy to start one. But then Tatooine's Ghost happened... and that novel basically lined up many things that just prove that Leia was just as likely capable to be turned to the dark side as much as Anakin... or any other Skywalkers there is. Though so far in the list, only involved the males.

Long post with caps. )

Journey to the Star Wars The Force Awakens : Moving Target: A Princess Leia Adventure by Cecil Castellucci & Jason Fry

Prior to Force Awakens, General Leia was approached again by the droid PZ-C04 to try to finally start on recording her memoirs. Finally relenting on the request, she started recalling about a mission called Operation Yellow Moon where she acted as a moving target in order to gain more time for the Alliance in order to prepare for the future battle on the second Death Star.

The main story sets prior to the beginning of the Return of the Jedi. While still worrying about the fate of Han Solo, news of a second Death Star was heard. Not wanting to remain idle, Leia started to suggest a dangerous mission to redirect the Empire's main force away from the battlefield. During that mission, she learnt a valuable lesson that she felt all of them needed to keep to heart.

It conceals a vital secret—the code used to communicate with New Republic agents undercover within the Empire.

When a dispute at the auction erupts into violence, the painting vanishes in the chaos. Han and Leia are thrust into a desperate race to reclaim it. As they battle against marauding TIE fighters, encroaching stormtroopers, and Tatooine’s savage Tusken Raiders, Leia’s emotional struggle over the specter of her infamous father culminates in the discovery of an extraordinary link to the past.

Two books... and slightly longer reviews. Then again it's because most of my gushes on those other novels ended up on my tumblr where I shamelessly shared random excerpts from the novels.

Yeah...

Then again I'm mostly going to start these kinda reviews on the books that REALLY captured my interests. XD
The more i kept seeing that post about how Leia had faced lotsa things that didn't ended up turning her to dark side compared to some of her male relatives, I feel like wanna make a full dissertation to prove them how wrong they were.

Aka, to be honest... Leia was likely to be turned to evil as easily as would any other Skywalkers regardless of genders given some certain circumstances. Esp post RotJ.

Why?

Post Jedi, she would be aware that she was also strong in the force. And Post Jedi, she would have lived with the knowledge that Darth Vader, a figure that she used to fear and hated... was her father. Post Jedi, she would start to be aware that she COULD use the Force like Luke and her father before her.

............

Dammit. I probably ended up MAKING that dissertation.
