Yamapi dropped his bag on his usual desk before sitting on the chair. He sighed as Kame nudged him from the sides.
“What’s up? Still thinking about yesterday?”
He looked up towards his friend as he nodded his head.
“You saw it also yesterday, didn’t you? Ryo had been so terrified... and I had only mentioned the old stairs in passing!”
Kame shrugged.
“You said before that his stepmother pushed him from on top of the stairs, hadn’t you?” he asked as Pi nodded his head. He sighed. “How scary... I wonder how he must have felt like, at that moment. If he had fallen from there differently and broke his neck as well. He could have died instead! That kind of horrific experience, wonder if one can actually forget about it completely?”
Kame looked up at the ceiling before sighing again.
“Ryo-kun, must have felt very scared then... to have almost escaped his own death. I wonder if I could do it like him, acting all cheered up while living in that house... with that kind of fear still fresh in his mind. I’d go crazy if I was him!”
Yamapi nodded slowly.
“Isn’t it... right? Wonder how we could help him...,” he mused as he turned towards Kame. “I mean... we can’t just watch him go through this alone by himself and do nothing. I... well, how could we just stand aside and watch him suffer... all by himself—“
Both of them suddenly turned around as several girls in their class started to make a lot of noise. To their surprise, Ryo was standing at the hall’s entrance door... seemingly out of place as he nervously tried to politely push away the number of girls who had already started to flirt with him. He glanced up as he caught sight of the two. Yamapi and Kame waved their hands at them as Ryo bowed towards them...

“Is it alright? I’m sorry if I disturbed your class or something—“
Kame slapped his hand on Ryo’s shoulder in a friendly gesture as he smiled.
“Don’t worry about it. Our lecturer still only be coming in another twenty minutes. We’re just the type to come to class early for the heck of it.”
Ryo just nodded as he let out a sigh of relief. Yamapi frowned.
“What was it... Ryo?”
The dark-haired lad just smiled at him weakly.
“About yesterday—“, he started to say, biting his lips. “—can you guys keep it to yourselves and not tell anybody? Not to the other guys... or Shige or Keii-nii, even if Keii-nii seemed to have noticed it a bit—I mean, just about anyone else? Especially to Hide-nii... especially him. I don’t want to make him worry about it anymore than he already did—“
“But Ryo! You can’t expect us to keep quiet about that and just... watch you bear with it alone—“
“Please I beg you, Pi... please!”, said Ryo as he looked up towards him again.
He took a long breath before speaking again.
“I used to talk to Imai-san. About the times when Aniki had been admitted to the hospital, those wretched times when he had to regain his own mobility and health. All the time without having any clue about who he was or whether or not he had any family left... Aniki had undergone many difficulties himself. Then, that happened to me... and we’ve reunited with each other and Aniki had started to regain his lost memories. Yet, just when he should be having an easier time after that... he had to take care of me and worried about me. He had always sacrificed a lot for me, to make sure that I could get over my treatment without any problems... making sure that I could be able to live the same way other normal young man like me—Aniki had done so much for me, I don’t want to burden him any more than I've already had—”
“But Ryo... I don’t think your brother would mind—“
“But I DO! I do...”
Ryo leaned towards the wall behind him, looking slightly dejected.
“It’s hard. Perhaps you guys do not mind it, but I don’t like to see people look at me every time with pity and concern and nothing else. I admit... what happened to me several years ago had been bad, very bad. It’s not like I asked to have that kind of pitiful life... not like I wanted people to be sympathetic to me because of it either. And it’s not like... just because—she treated me like that all those years—because of that... incident, I’m suddenly becoming this fragile person that everyone have to protect with every means that they have. I hate it. I hate it that I’ve always made everyone worry... I hated it when I’ve caused people trouble when they shouldn’t have to bear with it. I just didn’t want to be a burden to anyone...”
Ryo bit his lips before walking away, without any word.
“Ryo—“
Yamapi tried to call out, as his voice seemed to fail him. Kame patted his shoulders as both of them returned to their class; their faces totally reflect their current feelings.
How could you react, when the one person that you had been concerned about—telling them that their concerns were unneeded?

Nishizawa Hideaki gave a loud sigh to himself, as he was alone in his office. The board meeting as usual, was like another battle for him. Aside from his father’s former partners and colleagues who knew him for a long time, the rest of the company’s staffs and workers that had only joined the organization after his father’s death haven’t been that happy to have him suddenly entering the company and become the new president. His father’s company had expanded a lot since his father’s death—under the vice president’s leadership—thus it was expected that the company had to take in more workers since then. Guess he had to somehow try his best to run this company on his father’s stead in order to gain the rest of his staffs' confidence...
A knock on the door and Hide glanced around as an older man, Sakamoto Masayuki, the company’s vice president and another close friend of his father; entered the office. The man smiled at him.
“I hope that the meeting earlier had not shaken your faith to run this company by yourself, Hide-kun. Not like I, as well as the senior partners and the company’s older staffs would not be around to help you with it. Don’t let those other executives press you into submission just because they were older than you.”
Hide smiled. Sakamoto-san had been so helpful to him, and having his around was a bit of a comfort. He had not been able to regain all of his past memories... but he did remember some bit. The older man after all, kind of like a family to him.
“It’s all right, Sakamoto-san. I had to admit it did get scary there at some point, but I’ll manage. I guess I still have a lot to learn about how to run this company properly.”
The older man smiled as he took a seat before him.
“You still had a lot of time, you’re still so young. But I guess since this last meeting was not the reason for those worry lines I’m seeing, that would mean you have something else that had been bothering you.”
Hide nodded.
“Is there something wrong with Ryo-kun?” Sakamoto asked as Hide shrugged.
He bit his lips.
“I maybe am over-reacting... but the doctors also had noticed the same thing despite Ryo saying that it’s not a problem. But I can’t just let such thing slide... you know?”
The older man nodded as Hide continued.
“I guess, because I’ve had similar experience... even though what happened to me was different than Ryo’s, I just can’t take light of the matter. I mean, Ryo have had a head trauma, and the severity of his injuries was not something that you can just take light about.”
“What about it?” asked the older man patiently, as he noticed that Hide had been finding it hard to even talk about the matter that had been bothering him. Hide sighed again.
“The doctor had said that maybe... Ryo still had some trauma from the last accident. I’ve noticed it for quite some time now—whenever Ryo started to feel some kind of stress or something—he would immediately lose his ability to use his legs. His lower body would just paralyze like that and until he had calmed down enough to think more clearly; he could not even move one foot, let alone stand properly."
"Nowadays, Ryo for certain would never tell me anything about this but I’m sure he still had those symptoms. Him trying so hard to not make me worry about him... just make me feel so helpless. I know I had my two stepbrothers to watch over him as well, but even they can’t always be around him at all times. I—“
Sakamoto stood as he slowly walked towards his side, before placing his hand on his shoulders.
“Don’t push yourself too much, Hide-kun. I don’t think Ryo-kun wanted to make you feel as if you’re useless. Your father was like that too. If not because I happened to stumble into his doctor’s report... I wouldn’t have known that he had been ill for a while. He said something about how unnecessary it was to have everyone worrying about his health. It was silly... but can you argue about that to them?”
Hide finally smiled.
“I guess I just have to be there when Ryo would need my support then,”
“That’s the spirit, boy!”
For some reason, Hideaki suddenly was glad that despite he had not that many family members left that he could call his own, he still had these close friends of his father's whom he could treat as such...
