Title: Ever After
Chapter: 5 - Ashen Wings
Characters: Mostly Nishikido Ryo and some neighbourhood heroes as well as some dear friends.

Summary: Continuation to Tsunderella. If only most 'damsels-in distress' had been braver and self-reliant, they could just protect themselves instead of depending on the unknown knights in shining armors...
A/N:Unbeta. I might not write any actual slash pairings... but I'm good at hinting some one-sided slash. And one taunt at me right now. I need to give my delinquents names at one point.

No time for panic now!, thought Ryo frantically as he reached out for his crutch and bag while trying to move out of the way using just the strength of his arms. Without warning, he caught his breath as he felt multiple feet kicking him on his stomach. He gritted his teeth as he again struggled to reach the handle of his crutch. One of the lads picked up his bag as he started rummaging its contents.
"Ehh... boring...," he muttered by himself as he shuffled over notebooks and reference book and—he seemed to take interest on the small gift box that Ryo had meant to give to his stepmother...
Ryo frowned as he finally got hold of his crutch and hit the young man's leg, causing him to drop his bag and the box. He also made a swing around him as the rest of the gang fled from him for a while. Ryo gathered his strength to grab his things from his attacker and mentally urged his legs to move while he tried his best to crawl away from the gang.
But it seemed that his actions only sparked his aggressors' anger as they started assaulting him again. Ryo held his bag tightly while trying to defend himself before one of them suddenly cried out. Apparently, it was the one that he had hit earlier...
"Hey... the guy seemed feisty enough—and it looked like he can't even walk!"
Ryo turned his attention towards the speaker, as the others seemed to have distracted a bit from kicking him. The guy suddenly had this strange smile on his face as Ryo suddenly felt dread in his heart.
"How about... we take off his pants? Or we might as well go all the way. I never done a guy before... this should be fun!"
Ryo stared at the guy and the others in horror as their attentions returned towards him. Immediately, memories of the past surged afresh inside his made as he cursed at them violently.
"Like hell I let you guys! Fuck off!" he cried ("Oh, we'll fuck you for sure!", one of them replied back) as he started to lift his crutch—but then, he was taken by surprise as several hands immediately pinned his arms, legs and body to the ground as the apparent leader of the group leaned before him. Still smiling that wicked smile. Ryo bit his lips as he continued to struggle against his captors...
The leader placed his hands on Ryo's hips as he could feel the hands running a path towards the fly of his pants. It appeared that while he had his fun, he found it amusing to torment Ryo as well. Anger immediately overrode fear, as Ryo finally was able to move his legs again before he started trashing about. One of the guys exclaimed in pain as the others continued to restrain him powerfully.
"Hold him back a bit more!" cried the leader again as he fumbled over Ryo's pants. But Ryo wouldn't allow it as he kicked again, sending another quivering at the side, nursing his jaw.
It seemed that the battle started to go against him as his strength started to waver, before another one of them suddenly fell. Ryo turned towards the direction of the fallen guy as Erika held a lacrosse stick in her hand.
"Nishizawa-kun! Are you all right?"
Ryo was about to reply as some of the guys that had restrained him rose towards Erika instead. She held her stick warningly at them as Ryo screamed in retaliation at the ones holding him still. Erika cried out again as he turned towards her in concern, even as he was pushed down again. But before those guys could even touch the girl, they were dragged away by not one... but two men. Ryo's eyes widened as Subaru and Yuu-tan—as he used to call the other man fondly—toss the rude boys aside. Another one got kicked away as Ryo gasped aloud, what kind of coincidence for Jin to appear as well?
Though Ryo had not remained stunned for long as he also started fighting back against his man-handlers, considering that one of his hands had been freed. Before long, he and his unexpected saviours had outmatched the gang as they fled for their lives.
Ryo took a moment to calm himself before turning towards his friends.
"You guys saved me! I thought I was a goner there—" Ryo exclaimed as Yokoyama grinned.
"You got to thank this girl here," he said as he pointed towards Erika. "If she hadn't seen you in trouble... we might not have managed to come in time. And you young man..."
Might as well been gang-raped by some unruly boys... had help not come, Ryo finished that thought silently, as Erika smiled shyly at him.
"It's nothing. It was lucky that I've decided to go to market first before heading home..." she said as Jin sighed.
"And I thought today was going to be uneventful—" he said as Erika gave a cry before scampering towards her fallen plastic bag. She heaved a sigh of relief as the content was left intact.
"Lucky I hadn't bought the tofu yet..." she said sheepishly before smiling at Ryo. "Dad's being random to want nabe for dinner."
Ryo grinned, despite the smile did not reach his eyes fully.
"Perhaps one of these days, I should invite you guys to eat at my house. You guys deserved it after today..."
Subaru held out a hand towards him.
"Can you stand... Ryo?" he said as Ryo nodded his head. True enough, now that the danger was over... his legs didn't feel like stones to him. He only managed to stand on his legs before giving out a cry of pain. Everyone gave a cry as Ryo suddenly collapsed towards them, with Yokoyama barely caught him in his arm. The two older men glanced at each other before turning towards the two younger ones before sighing.
"We'd better get him home."

His worries peaked as he saw the number of people inside his house being more than it usually have, spared one expected guest. He frowned as he saw Ryo lying on the couch, unconscious while surrounded by many people. Subaru rose up to explain the situation to him as he asked Hideaki to sit. He also told him that they had a short trip to the hospital earlier and ensured him that Ryo had not sustained much injury—much probably, just a bit of shock. Even then, he was not reassured that all had been well as Yokohama had mentioned that Ryo had cried out painfully just before he had collapsed. The worried elder brother turned his attention towards Ryo as the younger brother had started to stir awake.
Hide was relieved, as Ryo opened his eyes at him before smiling...

"So what happens after that?" Pi asked as Erika fiddled with her fingers again. Kame and Maki frowned as they eyed the friend with concern.
Erika sighed before looking up towards them. "Ano ne? Yesterday... I got to meet Nishizawa-kun's family for the first time, got introduced to the brothers as well as—did you know that Ryo's stepmother had returned home?"
Pi gave a cry at that before shaking his head. Come to think, he hadn't got the chance to talk to Ryo after the... sort-of quarrel they had the other day.
"She was supposed to stay for only several days for now, to see if she was finally well enough to live normally with the family—so... well, since I don't know what happened in the past... well I can't comment much, but Aunty seemed very worried about Nishizawa-kun when Yokoyama-san and Subaru-san took him home. And then... when he woke up—"
The trio leaned closer as they strained to hear Erika's words.
"He didn't recognize her. Ryo—I mean, Nishizawa-kun. He also didn't remember anything about being attacked yesterday. It was... strange. That was why Hideaki-san decided to take him to see a doctor today. He's not sure what to make about this thing..."
Pi nodded his head.
"I see. I can tell why he's worried though. It was true... that Ryo's stepmother used to abuse him, so this thing about him not remembering anything about her might be good. But then again... this attack on Ryo—"
"Ryo needed some people to watch over him... there's no telling that this won't happen again. You girls won't be enough. And you're sure that those guys were from here?" Kame asked as Erika nodded.
"Sometimes those people hung out at our class randomly even when they had no business there, so I remembered them. And don't worry about that. Yokoyama-san had an idea to solve it."
Pi blinked. "Huh? What do you mean, Erika?"
The girl grinned. "He had someone that could help. And it's better than your other friend's—was it, Tegoshi-san?—suggestions. We happened to drop by at Subaru-san's shop since I was still in the middle of grocery shopping, and well... Hina-san was there and he happened to be talking to his cousin. Your friend had exclaimed over the phone that he wanted to change universities at once! Just so he could help watch over Nishizawa-kun."
Pi grinned as Kame commented at the loyalty his friends had with each other.
"As expected of Tesshi," Pi commented as he glanced at her. "So are you visiting him anytime this evening?"
The girl shook her head.
"I've got club activities," she said with a shrug. "Come to think... Nishizawa-kun had been wondering about you, Yamashita-kun."
Pi's eyes widened as Maki addressed him suddenly. "But what would things be now, Yamashita-kun? Ryo-kun seemed to forget about his stepmother and apparently, anything related to her with regards to the past events. So about the reason that both of you had an argument yesterday—"
"I wonder if I should still keep it to myself... you were trying to say?" he asked as Maki nodded. He shrugged as his eyes met Kame's.
"I don't know. I seriously don't know..."
