XD

So getting in touch with the Korean fandom was fun~ It's even better when we're all excited about the same thing XDDD. This Saturday and Sunday (today) KBS World reaired Chuno despite it's almost a month since the series had been re-aired (this year). But instead of a full 24 episode drama, the series was remade into 2-part TV-Movie that was 3 hour long in total.

I warn you, after this point... I'll be rambling like a nutter... (and still I haven't including everything that I noticed about the special during my semi-live commentary on fb~)

I missed 1/3 of the first part of the TV Movie aired on Saturday due to me getting stuck at the mall nearby with a sudden storm standing in between me and home. But lucky dad come to the rescue~

But since prior to this I was not sure if they gonna just air the original drama or not (or air a behind the scene or something), I was at first taken aback at the thought that it was just the normal re-airing of the series. But then... I noticed the various scene jumps and different order of scenes coming up-- I know there was something different. And I noticed it was not just the less important scenes being cut and shortened to fit the 1 1/2 hour time, the scenes were also merged and replaced so that it seemed that less time had passed and less event was happening during the story.

From the part that I managed to see, it appeared that the sub plot involving Eopbok and the Hanyang rebel slaves were omitted--letting the 'movie' focusing on the main character; Lee Daegil, Song Taeha and Kim Hyewon. Even if many of the romantic flashbacks were cut out. XD. I'd say it was a nice edit especially during each of the part of the end episode freeze being cut so that the part of the earlier episode flowed seamlessly with the next. If you haven't watched the original drama length you wouldn't have expected the scene to freeze during those parts! The edits having cut and merged so that the event seemed to have happened in real time (like in the scene where Daegil and co met the monk, Taeha and Hyewon were shown to have already escaping) was a nice take. And considering that some of the removed scenes left many holes in the show, to see the remaining scenes being reordered to make it seemed as if it was meant to go in the different order was interesting.

Since aside from the Eopbok side plot being removed, so did most of the side plots involving the tavern ladies, the artist, horse doctor, Officer Oh... and even the part about Lee Gyeongshik working to eliminate his opposing faction being opt out! While the ones with Taeha, Hyewon, Daegil, Cheolwoong, Cheon Jiho were shortened and mixed around. Most of it. One part I felt bad about this part was that... the scene where Taeha visited Sohyeon's tomb was gone and the flashback during that time was replaced as the dream Taeha had when he collapsed after the arrow injury. (Meaning.... byebye dream about ex-wife and baby~) And the Chungju scene was shortened as well... even the scene with Baekho and Assassin Yi were gone~ Most of the long narrative part of the series (Daegil learning about Taeha's fall from grace, Hyewon's flashbacks for Daegil, Cheolwoong being in prison and his MOM and Sunyoung) were skipped so that most of the action scenes can remain. (hahaha magically appearing flower patterns on Hyewon's mourning dress!)

The first part of the TV movie frankly crammed up 6 episodes worth of plot. Making me feel that maybe... that we'll get either a 2-parter or 4-parter if the pattern remained the same.

BOY, was I proven wrong. It turned out that the TV movie was a 2-parter. Wow! How to cram up 18 remaining episodes in just 1 1/2 hours? Remember.... in the first part, most of Eopbok's and minor slaves and Lee Gyeongshik etc etc were omitted... so that should meant the amount of plots to be crammed in was down to 9. Still too much. Well.... the scene at General Shin's house was taken very little in that the part that remained was Hyewon waking up. XDDDDD And then we sorta zoomed to hey~ Hanseom preparing to escape by checking on his map! (There was a super short scene with Injo and Lee Gyeongshik telling him about sending an assassin... dun mind about that) And hey~ Cheolwoong already arrived on Jeju! (We so totally skipped the events at Wando and the boat ride and everything--but considering Baekho and assassin and Kim Seonghwan and everything else weren't allowed to appear in first part, I'm not surprised)

So yeah~~~~ super fast travelling from Chungju to Jeju in record time and many of the Jeju scenes were cut short as well. Meaning... no Hanseom-Pilsoon happyhappyandsadsupersad scenes and all those overnight fleeing from Cheolwoong. The only surviving Jeju scene was about Cheolwoong tracking Hanseom, Taeha finding the place all dead, Hanseom-Cheolwoong fight, super short trip on the rocky ledge and yes epic fight scene minus the epic bg track. No... we don't get the 'Jagger' being left for Hyewon and all that other mushy stuff as well! Taeha wins and byebye Jeju and Lee Gyeongshik tells Injo that 'we failed to kill Seokgyeon,'. Fast? Yes! 6 episode plot condensed  into just 30++ minutes! (And we didn't have ads!) No... no scenes of Cheolwoong being sad and lonely~

And magically... no Unju temple scenes (despite there IS a scene where General Choi told Daegil about the secret message) so no heartbreaking crying fallen Joseon loyal soldiers~ (me sad XP) No running around hiding their tracks scene as well, they had all magically regrouped and reunited at the suwon near Unjusa. Talk about super fast~  All those discussions between Taeha and the scholars are gone (yeah... it's not important to movie, yeay~ no Jo seunbi assface) as well as the important 'let's do our mission' development scene gone. But there is the part where Taeha got married again (yeah~ THAT's important!) and Daegil supposedly having witnessed that (and so the reason why he cried... not too heart-wrenchingly.) And Daegil wanna go home and Wangson went of to kill Taeha and Cheolwoong swoops and Choi search for Wangson... and fight Cheolwoong... and WANGSON!!!!!!!!!!! and that's the last we hear of General Choi and Wangson~

Daegil was made to believe Taeha had something to do with this and went after him... to find Hyewon. So whatever Hanseom, Gwangjae did before this we never know~~~~and Taeha come and BIG REVELATION! and snow fight~ Everything else about the plot regarding the place they were in at the moment was not shown. But hey~ they CUT the part about Taeha asking Daegil if he killed his subordinates (honestly the scene where Cheolwoong goes killing all gone. Zilch!) So YEAH? In this TV Movie, Cheolwoong didn't kill them!!!!!!!!!!!!! (dance with joy) We still get that silly boxing till both are KO part. (and during Taeha finding out about Eonnyeon retained the flashbacks from the removed scenes~)

But get this, after this point the timeline really flew like on a jet plane. No lies! There was no explanation as to why Hyewon/Seokgyeon were separated with Taeha but lo~~~~ Taeha and Daegil were travelling together to meet Hyewon and co! MAGIC! The whole Punishment room, meeting with Ingguldai, reunion at Hyewon's 'hometown', reunion with Choi, Wangson, Jjakgwi... ALL GONE! Even Eopbok's epic shootout at the palace.... but we get that. But Eopbok!!!!!!!!!! And yes, this TV movie had deprived us from the Sniper song XD.

Hyewon had magically met up and escorted by the Qing soldiers (no... Jjakwi and his men are cut off) and met up with Taeha and Daegil. Ah!!! But that means.... noooooo Crown Prince Bongrim!!!! We didn't get Taeha's awesome speech that fully summarize Chuno's plot. But I guess... since that arc tied with Eopbok's plot... it had to go. But hey~ we magically get to the last confrontation with Cheolwoong... and the 'get your man and escape' scene. And the 'movie' ends with Daegil defeating Cheolwoong and preparing to face the last squadron of soldiers. And that implied... in TV movie, DAEGIL LIVES! Taeha and Hyewon... yeah we know they're alive and so is Hanseom and the others (and oh!!!!!!!! Baekho didn't DIE!) and nooooo! Lee Gyeongshik didn't get killed by Eopbok what is this? But yeah.... this TV Movie amused me so much.

Whoever had done the editing for this series deserved all the awards! With all the cuts and splice and even the audio editing it was MARVELOUS. The whole thing might have moved too fast at times but you didn't feel as if you're watching a chopped up series! (at least not all the time, and it still felt like everything is so rushed. Like Time decided to jst fast forward life~) All the remaining scenes all had merged nicely with each other.  Tho it's funny to see the scene where Cheon Jiho attacked Cheolwoong; wait, this is in Hanyang Cheolwoong was not in--- XD never mind~

It really gave me a new perspective! You know like when you watched a movie and wished it to be a drama instead so that it can fully be developed with all the romance and action and drama? You get the reverse of that and made you realize... "THANK GOD THEY ENDED UP MAKING THIS INTO A DRAMA SERIES" instead of the planned movie project. I've seen similar stuff like this being done in animes but this is EPIC shiz~

Okay, I'm done spazzing hahahahaha.
