Saw episode 2 of Bima.
So technically I felt I should call this series Satria Garuda Bima instead of the other way around. Similar as to how you call any other Kamen Riders. Cos Bima IS the name of hero and he's a Satria Garuda (Hawk Knight). And I find the nod to Kamen Rider Black a bit flattering. Then again, Kamen Rider Black/Ksatria Baja Hitam/Suria Perkasa Hitam do have lots of impact on South East Asia toku fans.
Episode 2 picks up from that moment when Ray went to save the girl (I forgot her name). He managed to rescue her but couldn't save her brother Randy as he was taken away. (What for? I dunno.). Then we see the baddies discuss about the situation and we hear the commander reports that Mikhail (guy who gave Ray his powers) managed to escape. Cue to Mikhail and Ray, we see how Ray felt devastated that he can't save Randy and appear to not want to be the hero if he cannot save his family. And Mikhail tried to reason to him that it's not just his family being in danger but a whole lot of other innocent people as well therefore he needs to become the hero fighting the evil baddies. Cue at home the sister crying over Randy's fate and whether or not he'll come back.
The plot went on with Ray somehow using the power stone to find Randy and fighting some more goons. We're still reverting around Ray's reluctance to becoming Bima with the fighting stuff but so far the action is good. Though, not sure if Ray did saved Randy since the scene cuts was weird when it jumped to Bima fighting the commander. The commander almost lose but saved by the big boss when Bima (with cue from Mikhail) summoned a double-edged hawk sword Helios. Makes you wonder if the sword is named that or Helios is actually a creature that 'transformed' into a double sword.
/shrugs.
That aside, we learnt that the power stone was one out of seven that the baddies needed in order to take over earth/universe. Oh. In b4 Dragon Ball refs~
...
So far, yeah.. the effects are good. But the stock image of boat-ship flying over the clouds felt redundant if they keep on reusing it over and over without any variety. There's even more KR Black vibes felt in this episode... so part of me wished that they'll pull a Nobuhiko with Randy. I really want it so much! Even though in this story the stone that gave Ray powers is just a power stone and not a king stone that would make it more special. (Though you DO wonder if we'll get an extra SIX more satrias using the power of the remaining stones.)
The acting from the cast was a bit off... esp on Randy's sister. It felt like over-acting at some point. Made me feel like telling them to relax and just act natural, yanno. And the part of Ray... as much as the anti-hero character was interesting, assuming he's really the kid from the opening of the first episode; I don't get how he would not have strong feelings against the enemies.
Unless he never see the bad guy that killed his family; which was that very commander he almost killed. Even then, ESPECIALLY after his parents and real sister (right? I know there's another sibling there I'm lazy to rewatch) have been killed (I assumed... cos you know, house explosion. Kid crying... all that jazz) Ray should have a strong desire to not let that happen to his new family... right? So I don't get why he'd be so indecisive about it. Shouldn't he be like... he HAS to fight and press Mikhail as to where the evil guys were hiding so he can go save Randy? Cos whining about it aren't gonna save/protect Randy and his new family... no?
So there's the review/recap for ep 2. XD
