Finally watched the first 2 episodes of Shin Ultraman Retsuden Ultraman Ginga.

Actually... it didn't seem so bad, unless you're very anal about your ultra canon like my friend. Then again, I've been warming up on the rumours on twitter so it shouldn't be a surprise that I'm okay with it.

The sorta high school setting was actually quite cute. Kinda KR/SS-esque in that way, unlike how Ultraman series setting usually started since there're always an earth defence team being involved. Which wasn't present here. So far. I think the fact that I'm already used to KR/SS setting; in that occasionally we get the usual high school setup in the show, was also reason I can accept Hikaru being young (and not part of an earth defence group. Yet) and the setting being like this... bit.

Technically, you can say Ginga was using the similar formula as Decade and Gokaiger. The whole 'every Ultrans and kaijuu was turned into dolls and scattered around' did feel reminiscent of Gokaiger; as well as the whole collect find them all part. Not to mention the fact Hikaru could transform/UltraLive into the respective monsters (as well as Ultrans). It was interesting right now that Hikaru can only UltraLive using Kaijuu and later turn into Ginga. Might also be because only when Ginga Spark was opened, can Hikaru UltraLive an Ultran. The whole reaction with the mark on his wrist.

And the fact that in this series, the bad guy used Valkie Seijin to look for people with dark hearts to make them activate the Dark Spark; was all more reason why this series felt more like KR/SS rather than the usual Ultra series. Due to the part, the monsters possess humans. Even though it's more like the humans after being overwhelmed by the Dark spark, controlled the monsters' actions.

I watched Taro when I was 6 or something, so I don't quite remember some stuffs... but Taro could psychokinesis? But then again, it's not like he can't learn new skills. Misuzu remind me a lot to Ryoutaro (Den-O) so much that it's cute. Yea... the setting also felt a bit Den-O-ish as well. I dun quite like Hikaru... but he's okay. Kinda like Channaka with his odd facial expressions (Oh yes... he remind me of Yuuto) and why his face always looked like he's about to cry?  Kinda pity the policeman named 'Kakki'. He always stumbled into these things...

I don't really mind Taro end up being sorta like narrator explaining things around... well, this is STILL called Shin Ultraman Retsuden so there should still be elements of Retsuden present.
