Randomly saw this post on tumblr. So yes, I want to rant.

While personally, I have to admit that diff people would have had different opinion about a show I can't help being offended over that statement. Even if it only referred to Ryuga-verse or even if I tend to have a lot of issue about Yami wo terasu mono, I'd STILL be defensive about the series if people talk shit on it.

Because that opinion about how people don't watch shows (in this case. Garo) for the plot but for outward appearance etc is just plain out insulting. Because NO, THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO WATCHES GARO FOR THE PLOT. For example, there's ME. Also, there are also the people that MAKES the show. Cos YES. THEY.DO. CARE. ABOUT THE PLOTS. Amemiya-san did not EMPHASIZE too much about the details if the plot don't matter to him. DO NOT TRAMPLE ON THE PRODUCTION CREWS' EFFORTS AND SAY THAT THEIR WORK ON THEIR SHOW'S PLOT IS OF NO CONCERN!

Granted, said blogger was referring to why the show need to have a recap episode. Well, I suppose the argument is that... why waste an episode to do a recap when you could use it to further the plot. Well, GENIUS... as much as a recap episode might be useless, it HELPS people to keep track of the current plot so far. Like in that ONE episode, you could revise the main plot so far without having to rewatch 14-15 episodes to get the same thing.

I wished KR and SS HAVE their set recap episodes as well tbh. Because god knows how that could have helped people keep track of the show's plot! God knows how it would have made MY LIFE easier to keep track of a KR/SS plot if they have recap episodes at set intervals! Like Ryukendo had them. It was of no issue THEN as well.

And honestly, the recap episode have a certain function in Garo. Aside from summarising the plot. You know what that is? It's to allow the production crew some time off to get a breather from releasing a new episode, as well as more time for them to work on the new episodes. Because while they do film all their new scenes few weeks, months earlier than the supposed airtime when the episode would have aired (like how most weekly shows are made), you do still have to count the days needed for post-productions. You think all the SFX magic don't take a lot of time? Who were the lots that COMPLAINS when an episode's SFX don't turn out as sophisticated as they hoped for?

And really, I hate that statement a lot. People don't watch Garo for plot? Oh... REALLY? I should say the same about the fandom attitude about Kamen Rider and Super Sentai series! Because in reality, you can say the EXACT SAME THING about those shows. That people DON'T watch them for plots, they watch it for pretty suits and/or monsters; they only watch the shows because of the pretty boys and girls in the show that are mostly pretty people and idols. Don't believe me? Just browse any one kr tumblr etc and see if there were any photosets that have either captions about how hot the casts were or tags lamenting like how dare the cast be so attractive and hot and so on!

Though, let me get this straight to anyone reading this post. I DO, also love Kamen Riders and Super Sentai. But I also love the GARO franchise. I do also love the Ultraman genre, Toho Kaiju series, Cybercop and other metal heroes series that I could lay my hands on. Each of them have their good parts that made me love them, not all of those parts other people would have liked as I did. Still I won't belittle people who DO like them, for any kinds of reason.

So when people make those kinda statements, I just find it VERY INSULTING. Especially when the shows they talked about have their own soul that makes the show special to those that love them.

And Garo for one, is VERY special to me. Much like Ultraman series and other series that I loved. Even more when I knew their history too well. Like I've been following Garo for a very long time. LIke sure, initially, I found Garo by accident... partly in relation to the people who worked on the show. Like back then, I started watching Garo since it's a new project by many people who have worked on different toku series to try making a new toku show that are not restrained by limitations on toy sales, ratings etc. It's a project to try going into the furthest to try making a show that don't have to worry about selling new toys, or being too scary or being too serious. A show where you can really focus on the story and not have to worry about any kinds of gimmick.

So to say that people don't watch Garo for the plot, that's really shallow and insulting. Say that about the toku shows that are mostly targeted for kids. Because in truth (despite those shows do also have good plot at times), those shows don't really focus THAT much on their plot. As long as their targeted demographic enjoyed the show regardless, the plot wasn't really that much of a concern. Just take a look at 555 and Hibiki. Those two in reality do have great plot as much as any other series, but what do ppl remember about them most? That one show was about this guy who betrayed people and shit on the hero and the anti-hero while the other show was about fighting monsters with pure music. Despite those two series' plot was much MORE than that. So was that any different than the statement on referring that ppl don't watch Garo for plot?

OR WAS THAT THE REFLECTION ON THE OP ON NOT BEING ABLE TO APPRECIATE A SERIES FOR THEIR PLOT? Because that's what I see in the end. Really. Like sure, Garo series (per season) was not that long (25 episodes) compared to KR/SS series (48-50++). But that those mean that the amount of plot in the show was less.

Because frankly, 23 episodes from a Garo series covered a lot more info than 25 episodes from any KR and/or SS series. That's saying something. And unlike KR/SS, Garo had no pressure to have to introduce new toys every episode. So even if it's shorter, Garo was able to concentrate on their plot. And...(despite the cap didn't include the tags) for saying the Garo plot is stupid, do take a look on A LOT of the current and/or past KR/SS series and try tell me that they DON'T have stupid plots. I DARE YOU.

This is what you get when you have good things. No matter what, there still be ungrateful people. It's like... you just can't have good things.

Like when a show had simple plot, the fandom overthinks them to imagine some kind of complicated thing. (Or demands that the plot be up to their likings). When the plot was intricate, the fandom pass it over saying that it's stupid. When the show had no pairings, the fandom tries to see pairings in everything. But when the show literally GIVES you some pairings, the fandom complains about show putting too much focus on pairings than plot.

Seriously. There's no satisfying ALL OF YOU!
