Putting this on a masterpost for easy reference.

Event Timeline & Timeline Fix

Because the drama had a one-year time skip, and also because I think the production team mixed up the dating while filming. In which, I don't really blame them much, considering the episodes had been filmed out of order etc. So it might have slipped their minds. The problematic timing was more towards ep 15-16, but I'm also including the estimated timeline when certain stuff happened. (Bolded parts was the fixed year, because I noticed the same mistakes in both KBS, VIU and fansub. Meaning the mix up was based on actual spoken lines.)

Sept-Oct 2014 - Sijin-Moyeon first meeting, date, Alpha team receive orders to Uruk. (Backdating, since it should be 8 months prior.)
May 2015 - Med team sent to Uruk, Myeongju transfer to Taebaek corps,
Mid-May - June 2015 - earthquake, M3 epidemic
Oct/Nov 2015 - Sijin shootout, North-South reunion (the reunion might be held a bit earlier than what happened in reality. Or might still occur around Oct.)
Nov - early Dec 2015 - Alpha Team assigned to winter mission
Mac/Apr 2016 - Sijin, Daeyoung goes MIA, assumed dead
Nov 2016 - Myeongju reassigned to Uruk.
Nov/Dec 2016 - Sijin-Moyeon/Daeyoung-Myeongju reunited.
March 2017 - Sijin promoted to Major.

- In which I also needed to touch on the particular issue on the timeline regarding the whole 1 year death anniversary thing

I made a simple calculation on the timeline, I assumed Alpha Team received their mission around Nov-Dec. Since the summit should be held around Oct-Nov. Assuming the event in the drama intended to reflect the actual one in reality, then it should occur around a similar date. So putting the North-South Korea incident as a point of reference, I made an estimate that they'd receive their mission few weeks later. Myeongju was then reassigned to Uruk on Nov the next year. In which the timeline didn't make sense, assuming that Moyeon went to Albania shortly after. (Cos series-wise, it didn't appear like there was a long period of time between Myeongju's departure to Uruk and Moyeon's trip to Albania. And if Myeongju had been in Uruk for quite some time, she should have already been aware that Gibeom was back in Mouru camp already and not just found out on the day Daeyoung arrived.) But then there was also another big gap in the timeline since Daeyoung and Sijin was supposed to be in captivity for about 5 months.

So if their 'time of death' was announced as the date they were actually MIA (which should be almost 3-4 months since they left Korea), the other dates would also be off. Because there will be an issue as to what they were doing in the remaining 6-7 months (because Sijin and Daeyoung were only in captivity for 5 months). Since they shouldn't take that long just to get to the nearest Combined/Allied Forces base (at most should be 1-2 months) and if they did, they should have reported their survival much earlier. But Daeyoung said that after they returned to a base and reported back, he heard about Myeongju's transfer. But by then it should already be almost a year since their 'deaths'. I don't think after almost dying, they'd loiter around mindlessly on some foreign land. They'd want to go home right away.

So I'm assuming the public date for both Sijin and Daeyoung 'death' that was announced, was actually the date Alpha Team was supposed to begin their winter mission. Since the whole thing was classified anyway, and putting their D-Day as that would have explained their lack of presence ever since the start of their mission. And Sijin hadn't been replying Moyeon's message ever since that one time. And assuming Alpha Team might end up spending more than 3 months for their mission, that would have fitted with the timeline better to make it a year. I mean, 4-month mission duration + 5 months being in captivity = 9 months. Add 2 months approx for the time they might take to find their way to an allied base you'll have almost a year. Few more days extra would have been ample time to receive proper treatment, report back and hear about Moyeon and Myeongju.

Tl;dr, the date that was publically announced as the date Sijin and Daeyoung died in an accident... was actually the date they were assigned for their winter mission.

Aside from that, you might question the part where the girls had waited for 'a year'... but don't forget the part where they've already been waiting for the boys for about 4 1/2 months prior without knowing about the fate of the boys (no contact since their departure, no more messages from Sijin aside from that one about him arriving safely.) I doubt the military had told them the actual date when Sijin, Daeyoung went MIA, so they might have been as clueless as to when they two actually 'died'. Doubt even the remaining members would tell them, and even if they did... they might not remember it well later. Since it should be confidential. 6-7 months later and the two might even mix up the dating as well (if they knew) and have had to refer to the official dates.

And this made more sense than Sijin/Daeyoung having kept the news of their survival hidden for the remaining 4-5 months after the time they should have escaped with help from Captain Ahn. Also, it's either this.... or Daeyoung miscounted about the 150-155 days thing (he said he's bad at math after all) or that was just the length of time they were locked up, no counting the days where the militia was on the move with them etc.

* Also, while I'm doing more research on what to do about the winter mission, the fact that there was a militia being mentioned as well as (possibility) of a Pro-Russia militants being part of it... the Alpha Team's mission location most likely be somewhere in Ukraine. And last year, there was some militant issue between Ukraine and Russia as well. I guess, it fits. For the fic though, not sure how much of the actual politics stuff I should use and what parts should I make up. I guess, I might have to try get some idea from the Bourne series.

Uruk

- According to the show, Uruk was located at the end of the Balkan Peninsula. But since they don't exactly mention at which 'end' was it (and considering the country of Uruk was fictional), I guess I can play around with that. Since some parts of the scenes used Greece as base, I'm not gonna put the fictional Uruk near Greece. Also, Albania was nearby so I'm really not putting Uruk anywhere close to either Greece and Albania.

- Funnily enough, I did somewhat mused around the idea that Uruk might be somewhere that was facing the Black Sea, and much nearer to Ukraine. In which, some parts in between Moldova and Romania looks like a good place to put in the fictional Uruk. So, I'm going to set the setting as that.

- Extra trivia, I randomly googled Uruk... and found out there's actually a place called Uruk. In ancient time anyway. It's an 'ancient city of Sumer and later Babylonia, situated east of the present bed of the Euphrates river, on the dried-up, ancient channel of the Euphrates River, some 30 km east of modern As-Samawah, Al-Muthannā, Iraq.' Interesting~~~

Other headcanon materials

- Sijin and Myeongju have met much earlier during their childhood but were never properly introduced to each other or become friends. Aka, they met each other on and off and were barely acquainted due to their father's relations. Around middle to high school, they probably haven't seen each other much. They only started becoming friends with each other properly once they joined the military. And partially because of Seo Daeyoung. They probably have had bad impressions of each other ever since children and fought quite often. Which lead to Myeongju planning her ruse with Daeyoung, as well as reasons why Sijin was not interested in dating Myeongju. Perhaps due to this particular relationship, Giljun started thinking of Sijin as a suitor for Myeongju, since Sijin could handle Myeongju just fine. She had a strong personality after all.

- Yoo Younggeun and Yun Giljun had a similar relationship as the one Sijin and Daeyoung had with each other. Younggeun originally was appointed a higher rank than Sergeant Major, but due to a mission which he might have disobeyed a direct order, he was demoted as punishment. Unlike Sijin, Younggeun had gone through a court martial questioning due to his action (thus receiving said punishment.)

- Based on how Giljun treated Younggeun with respect despite their difference in ranks, he might have served as Younggeun's subordinate when he was much younger.

- That said, the reasoning why both Sijin and Giljun had a certain emphasis on being honourable (not that the military wouldn't have placed importance on it as well) should relate to Younggeun.

- I named Sijin's mum as Kim Seungja. Just because.

- I headcanon that Daeyoung considered Sijin as his real family, esp since Kim Jinseok's death. So, he tends to get a bit too overprotective of the dude.

- I haven't been able to put this to writing yet, but I believe Kim Jinseok's death also more or less influence the change in Argus, aside from his relationship with Sijin, who used to respect him a lot.

- Oh yeah, the part about Sijin's belief, on protecting they beautiful, old and young? That was totally him. And not influenced by anyone else. It was, though, influenced by his own personality, sense of filial duty as well as his own sense of humour. If there was anything he took from his parents was that he tend to be very respectful to people much older than him. Daeyoung doesn't count. He's Sijin's fav bro that he love to annoy cos he never had a sibling of his own. Anyway, his definition of beautiful people aren't just from appearances only, it's also by personality and attitude. Senior citizens aren't just people older than him. But also any person that doesn't fit to be called 'beautiful' or not good people. Like thugs, baddies etc. Manager Jin was part of this category. Same for the young.

- Sijin was never THAT experienced with love. He's just an awkward duck. His lines just happen to sound smooth cos he's so awkwardly honest it was charming.

- Sijin told some of the other soldiers about the whole 'dated for a year but only met for a month' thing. People mistook it as Myeongju and Daeyoung having slept with each other. He got chewed up by Myeongju later and forced to confess to her on what really happened.

I'll add more to this if I ended up expanding on the universe. So there you have it.

* I might end up adding my own personal traits to Sijin. Us fellow Pisces must stick together after all.
