Title: Astray
Series: 모범택시 / Taxi Driver
Characters: Kim Dogi, Kang Hana
Summary: As things started to become slightly awry after the unexpected outcome from the Udata case, Dogi started wondering again if the things he'd done with the Rainbow Taxi were the right thing to do.

-----------------------

"The police and fire department are trying to determine the source of the explosion and the number of casualties. According to the police, an unidentified person was found inside the building that exploded."

"Let's put him in the chicken coop..."

Dogi continued staring at the scenery overlooking his place as the aftermath of the Udata mission continued to bother his thoughts. He really couldn't stop thinking about it, no matter how much he wanted to keep distant about it. Because of that incident at that villa, it wasn’t as if he had nothing to do with it.

That dead unidentified person that was reported on the news... should be Park Yangjin. And since the one who set off the bomb at the mine was him, indirectly, he was the one who murdered that good-for-nothing CEO.

He thought that he made sure that he tied Park Yangjin securely to the base of the tree. So how could that man escape and got himself killed in that mine that they blew up? That was Park Yangjin for sure, or else... the news would've mentioned the man being detained or something. And who else could've gone into that mine... if not to try to prevent it from being destroyed?

He doubted that any of the minions that he'd beaten up that night could be so foolish as to risk their lives to save the mine...

"What happened to Park Yangjin wasn't your fault. You wanted to keep him alive..."

Goeun has already gone back down to her place after reassuring him not to feel troubled about killing Park Yangjin. But he still couldn't feel at ease. No matter what everyone has been saying, there was no denying that he did indeed kill a person. So if he himself tried to deny that he wasn't at all guilty for doing what he did, what makes him different from those people he was supposed to punish? What right has he to think that his action was much more justifiable than those people?

And he couldn't shake his mind off the things Mr Jang has said to him before they lost contact with the man, supposedly during the time Cho Dochul had come to the house. Mr Jang had told him that it would be troublesome to deal with Park Yangjin using the usual way they've dealt with their other targets.

No, it still bothered him. Why did Mr Jang say that to him back then? The 'chicken coop'... back then the only chicken coop he saw happened to be the same place where the mine was hidden. So when Mr Jang told him where to leave Park Yangjin... did Mr Jang really want him to do what he thought Mr Jang wanted him to do?
Was he misunderstanding it? Because like it or not, even if he hadn't actually planned for it to happen... Park Yangjin did end up going into that mine and dying there!

Dogi took in a long breath.

When he started this 'revenge business', his only thought was to help ease the pain of other victims of crimes who had been hurt and overlooked by the authorities like him. Yet, as he continued to do this act of vigilantism, how could he know whether or not he had overstepped the boundaries of what's right or wrong?

His head started aching really badly without warning.

At this rate, he probably wouldn't be able to sleep. Dogi sighed before turning around to head down to the grocery store. Perhaps he could get himself something to drink.

But then the next moment as he got back to the rooftop, Prosecutor Kang was already waiting around to see him.
What kind of luck was he having right now? Of all the people he didn't want to see right now, it had to be her; first and foremost, to appear in front of his doorsteps.

"You saw the news on Udata, right?"

"Chairman Park Yangjin, who's at the heart of this case, as well as his three closest assistants, are currently on the run. I'm sorry, but this case isn't over yet."

He wasn't planning to check on the press release on the Udata case but after Kang Hana mentioned it, he just had to check it.

At first glance, the press release didn't seem to be any different than any other press release that has been made after the police or the prosecution was able to uncover a big case. Yet, something about what Ms Kang said near the end caught his attention.

From the response of the reporters to the press release, it's clear that everyone over there already assumed that the problematic issues regarding Udata were finally resolved. They did look too eager to congratulate Ms Kang for solving this case, even though she didn't really do much other than taking credit for the things that he and his team had done. But rather than claim that she had done well in putting a stop to Udata's heinous practice, she pointed out the missing executives and how the case was still far from over. And mentioned nothing else afterwards.

Did she know something? He thought of the conversation the two of them had last night. Last night, for no apparent reason she started asking about the taxi that he took back home. And she kept trying to confirm that the car that he had parked outside had been the only car that he used. It made him feel uncomfortable.

"Oh! Are you back to being a taxi driver again?"

Would it be possible that Kang Hana had been investigating his deluxe taxi? Was that why she was interested in him and his taxi work? How was that possible, since so far no one had taken notice of the things they've been doing—Dogi blood suddenly ran cold.

That night, when their cars had passed each other... did she see him?

Was that it?
