Some more~
Episode 5 - Surrogate Womb
Another story that touched me deeply after Resurrected Princess. It's about tragic story of a man who had loved the woman who had been brought in to become the surrogate mother to his son. The man, a noble had been made to take a surrogate woman to give birth to his child, possibly because his wife could not. To his surprise, he found that the woman turned out to be the same girl he had met as a child, a low-class girl by the name of Gaetong. Hesitation quickly disappeared, as he indeed had loved her and still loved her as he had taken her.
Months passed as the child in her womb grew and the couple had spent time happily together, much to the disdain of the wife to see her husband loved the surrogate mother more than her. Thus the day of Gaetong gave birth, the wife and the man's mother kept the pretense until the child is born and announced to be her child. Gaetong was later sent away, to the man's chagrin at which later he found her and took care of her and continued their affair. Unfortunately, they were found out and days later, Gaetong died mysteriously in a fire. Not long after, one by one the people involved in her murder died killed by her ghost. And Gaetong later, ended up having to kil her own child... in order to save him from further pain, thanks to the poisons fed by the man's wife. No sooner after, the man confront her ghost as he found out the truth of her death as well as try to lessen her pain in order to alow her soul to rest in peace.
Episode 6 - Forbidden Book
The story started with a scene in one household where a group of girls ran along to find a scholar in the family to read for them a book that seemed to be a popular read at the time. That night, a sudden change overcame the girls as they seemed to be possessed by a ghost, as they started attacking and killing people. This was the premise of the story.
The scene goes to another family as the lady of the house changed her attire to a servant's, before going out to take a fresh air. She was the wife of an officer, who had been around routing out every single of the Forbidden Book that had been rumored to have been possessed by a ghost, causing everyone who read it to go crazy and start killing their family members. Apparently, despite being a woman; she was very knowledgable and loves to read. Every two days in a week she would sneak out of the house and went to a bookshop to find new novels and also transcribe books whenever needed. That day as she saw her husband outside with his duty, the shopkeeper told her of the Forbidden Book. Apparently her husband had been mentioned as one of the main character in the book and it was a book about homosexuality. On her way home, she stumbled upon a house where an underground bookshop was located. Somehow the forbidden book found her way into her hand as the store owner warned her about the book and hinted there would be a price to pay should she want to return that book. Everything was fine for her until one day, her son had read the book and was possessed by the ghost of the person who had wrote the book...
The story was a bit like The Ring in a sense, just in a much older setting. Kinda creepy a bit at the end when the ghost got to her husband and he became a walking dead, bent on stopping his wife from fulfilling Haemyeong's will of wanting the book to be read by everyone. Apparently, the writer, Haemyong had a relation with the woman's husband. When the man had just started his service, he had been in charge of the Haemyeong's father's execution; whom had been craged with treason. Despite their previous relation, Haemyeong being engaged to him; he also executed her brother who had been disatisfied with the situation. Angered, she started a petition and later wrote the Forbidden Book when the petition failed. She was later caught and tortured before being killed herself.
Despite the gory story, the story ended well with the man's wife and son... apparently survived that night, 5-6 years earlier after fulfilling Haemyeong's will and becoming a successful third-rate writer herself.
And hey~ I found a site that had the rest of the episodes~ Yeah... actually can find it at ViiKii too XD
Episode 7 - The Quiet Village
This story sets in a time where political disputes can lead to murders. Mr. Yun, worried about the health of his children; released Jinseong's wife and children who were taken as slaves since a shaman told him that this might be happening because of Jinseong. The story started with three people, parents and son; trying to escape from a village as they were stopped by several villagers from leaving. As the three escaped, the son who was the last person who had entered the village earlier was later killed.
The focus turned towards So Yang and her two children as they journeyed towards a village that was mentioned by her late husband. Upon reaching there, she saw a mass line of villagers dancing in circles. The villagers disappeared right after to her surprise but later as they entered deeper she was glad to find many of her villagers alive and surviving at the village. But all seemed to not be what it seemed as So Yang learned more about the village and the people living in it as well as found out the truth about her husband's murder. Soon, she found herself to be the one who can seek justice and appease the souls of the living dead in the village; referred to as the "Village without a Grave"...
Episode 8 - Mugiho/Nine-tailed fox
Another story based on the legend of the Nine-tailed fox. In a distant mountainous forest, a small family of nine-tailed foxes were on the run from the hunters. In order to protect his family, the male fox tried to divert the attention of the hunters away and inadvertantly caught and killed. Because of the hunters, the mother fox told her young daughter to find a human husband and lived with him for 1000 days. Rewatching the 2008 story, it seemed that this one might be the prequel to the nine-tailed fox story in the 2008 version.
This story was about the nine-tailed fox who dreamed to become human after falling in love with one, before having her dreams shattered because of her husband's betrayal. The story showed us the worst quality of humans that was the greed of man...
