Title: Ever After
Chapter: 10 - Trust
Characters: Nishikido Ryo, Takizawa Hideaki and brief appearance of Koyama Keiichiro

Summary: Continuation to Tsunderella. The brothers had a heart to heart talk...

Hideaki placed Ryo's bag and crutch at the back seat, and was about to help Ryo get into the the car before his younger brother stopped him.
"I'll... do it myself," said Ryo softly as he got in. Hide smiled as he patted his brother's head before getting to the driver's seat. The older brother shrugged to himself before starting the engine.
"Aniki..."
Hide glanced towards Ryo as the lad smiled weakly.
"I'm sorry to always have to trouble you," Ryo said apologetically as Hide ran his hand over his brother's head.
"What were you talking about? You're my one and only little brother. And there's nothing troubling about watching over you—"
"—but it must have taxed you, isn't it? You already had the company to worry about, yet you still have to look after me. I must have caused you a lot of worry... ne? Suba-san told me. About the things that I had forgotten, about how Yuko-san used to treat me... about how I had always gotten hurt—how I had fallen from the stairs..."
Hide turned his attention again towards Ryo as he said nothing. After a while, he sighed.
"If I tell you that I never felt tired over everything that had happen, I'd be lying to you. But truthfully, I don't mind. After all, you are all I've got left. No matter how many obstacles there are in front of us, I would not stop watching over you. You're my favourite little brother... right?"
Ryo grinned at him.
"Besides, it's not like you won't do the same for me."
"But is it okay? Even though everyone had hoped that I continue to not remember all of those hurtful past, I still try to remember every bits of it—"
"Do you... then, remember everything now?"
Ryo shrugged.
"Not really. Even when Suba-san had told me most of the things he knew, I can't really relate myself to those recollections. Some of it, I somehow had a ghost of a feeling towards them... but I really can't make anything out of it for sure—"
"Don't force yourself," Ryo turned towards his brother as Hide shrugged.
"I honestly don't mind that you try to regain the memories that you've lost, because I know that you're that strong inside. Perhaps the stress that you've felt when you had been attacked few days ago, caused you to have selective amnesia like this. Though, thinking back... I am glad that it happened like this."
Ryo cocked his head at his brother as Hide smiled.
"You know, Yamapi had called me up before."
"Pi-chan?"
Hide nodded.
"He told me about how you still retained that extreme fear you had during the time when you had your accident. Pi also told me that you told him to keep it a secret from me so that I won't worry. But actually, I already noticed it. You should really confide to me about this from the start," Ryo looked down on his legs guiltily as Hide chuckled.
"Aniki... about Yuko-san—"
"What about her?"
"Is it alright... for me to—"
"Do you hate her?"
Ryo shook his head.
"I don't feel anything. But the last three days... she had been nice to me. I really thought that she really was a nice person so when Suba-san told me how she used to abuse me physically—"
"She was also troubled about this."
Ryo glanced at Hide in surprise.
"Yuko-san was afraid, you know? She had regretted her actions and felt that she needed to atone to her guilt for the way she had treated both of us badly. I told her to not mind it. In the end, things like this will only make us strong... as long as we don't let ourselves be weakened because of it. I guess it must be hard on her as well. Wonder how did her first husband had treated her before this, before leaving her to fend for herself with Keii and Shige. It must have scared her, when our father had died. She must have thought that everyone wanted to betray and leave her, and made her think she should resort to violence to keep those she cared about to stay by her side. Don't you think that was sad?"
"Aniki... somehow, you sounded so wise—"
Hide chuckled as he finally backed the car out onto the streets and started to drive away.
"I do, right? Never look down on your brother. I can be cool too!" he said again as Ryo laughed. "Though I had to say, I'm glad that despite you have tried to regain your memories... your intense fear that had always haunted you all this time remained lost. That's the best thing that I thought for you. At least now, you can really, properly walk away from that point in your life and move on."
"You really think so, niichan?"
"Yep!"
Hide grinned, seeing Ryo looked so happy as he focused his attention to the streets.
"So now, all you need to focus was your studies. About those kids that had been harassing you and Erika-kun, I'll talk to the university later if this continued,"
Ryo smiled.
"About that... somehow I felt glad, despite everything. I guess I'd have to figure out a way to settle this issue without any other complications. Everyone really tried so hard to cheer me up and I also gained some more friends in the process. I... I'm so glad to have everyone cared about me so much," he said again as Hide smiled.
Ryo looked up as he remembered Maru's energetic words earlier...
"Then Ryo-chan should be our Yellow Ranger!"
He grinned as somehow the thought warmed him inside. It really was nice to have people... to whom you felt you belonged. It really was good, being loved like this. Really, he wanted to experience even more things and learn even more that he could of this world and its people. He would also want to get even more friends than he had now. It should be exciting!
"Ne, Aniki. Is it okay if I do not bring my crutch to university tomorrow? I wanted to try walking around by myself."
"Of course you can," said Hide as he took a turn towards the road leading to their house before parking the car in front of the gate. "But make sure you have at least one of your friends accompany you. And also when you get home—"
"I'll have Pi or anyone else walk me home," said Ryo, still grinning. "We already talked it out earlier. Erika-chan would also have some people to accompany her home, just to make sure that those people did not harass her along the way."
Hide leered at his brother, who had grinned at him cheekily as both of them got out of the car.
"All right, but don't you start running around just because you think you're already getting better—" he started to say as to his alarm, Ryo immediately sprinted towards the house just as he open the gates. He gasped as Ryo suddenly lost his balance and looking as he was about to crash towards the door—before Keiichiro caught him in his arm.
Ryo grinned as he turned around to face Hide before hugging his stepbrother affectionately.
"I love you too, Keii-nii!"
Keiichiro blinked at his stepbrother in confusion before looking at Hideaki, puzzled at the sudden exclamation. Hide shrugged at him as the three of them get into the house to settle for the night...
