Random thoughts about the Ultraman series... probably sparked from that thread in KRDL forums. I think it was from someone saying that... the recent Ultraman series more or less rehashed the same old ideas thus the lack of interest in fansubs picking it up. Imma like... riiiiiiight.

As if Kamen Rider and Super Sentai series don't do that so often. XD

Truthfully... to me, Ultraman series was kinda like the who-verse. Yeah... the basic concept was generally the same--Monsters started appearing on Earth, some special taskforce was formed to battle them... while not being so successful until an Ultran appear. Of which a young member of the taskforce (or some normal civillian with brave hearts) will end up becoming an Ultran and save the day. You'd get different monsters in every episodes... but occasionally some of the old monsters (suits) get to reappear in the new series. (Like Eleking, Gomora, Red King.... Pigmon. Same like the Daleks, Cybermen, Sontarans...) Of which... truthfully, is not bad at all~

Because despite the similar premises, the plots are not exactly the same. Have to say the same with KR and SS. And that is fine.

At the moment,  I almost watched ALL of the Heisei Ultra series.... spare the odd movies/episodes of Cosmos that I missed/watched partially. (And Neos.) And I don't think they fared badly compared to the KR/SS series. So to that opinion on that thread, naah I disagreed with you. XP. Granted, I used to wary of Max... not really fond of Max's outfit, but the plot turned out fine. And fish... I really should have watched Max sooner. I mean... Aoyama Sota! Inui Sadaharu being Max.... oyeah~ And even when Ultra Galaxy focused more to the monsters and aliens compared to the Ultrans, don't make it bad. XD

Uhm... right.

Like the Heisei KR and SS that did evolved much compared to their Showa predessesors... the Heisei Ultra series also took on many new concepts. I mean, before Tiga... all the series before had run on the same universe. (Like the Showa KR) They never done a series that set on a completely different Earth. And Tiga had been a nice concept... come to think, aside from Mebius, Ultra Galaxy, UG Legend and the side stories; all of the Heisei Ultra series were set in parallel universes. (Not sure about Neos tho) Okay... Seven and Zero were from the main universe but Ultra Seven X and Revenge of Belial are set in another universe. Plus Saga also is set in Tiga/Dyna world.

And something I noticed, (granted I don't quite remember much of the Showa Ultras aside from Ace, and I haven't watch Ultra Q, Ultraman and Return of Ultraman) the plot in the heisei series regarding the reveal of the Ultran's human host/real identities to the task force/general public were less darker than the Showa. Or at least... compared to Ace. Oh wait... there were some bad reactions towards the human hosts in Nexus but as far as I recalled, none was as bad as Ace. I think Ace's plot is the most painful one regarding the reveal...

Like when Rena/the GUTS team found out that Tiga was Daigo they did not react badly to that. Then again, they were so busy trying to save Daigo when Tiga was in dire situation I think they don't have the time to think about it.  Same like for Asuka/Dyna. Gaia and Cosmos... I don't quite remember their plots, but they weren't too dark either. Max... Mizuki's plot (I realized now) was similar to Rena's in Tiga... being they're the one who first realized Kaito's/Daigo's Ultran identities, though Kaito's plot was slightly different compared to Daigo.

When Mebius revealed himself... well, that turned out okay too.But I guess that's due to the people being less wary about Ultramen compared to Ace/Seiji's time. And the fact that Sakocchi and Misaki knew about Mirai's identity from the beginning, that made Mirai's situation a bit different compared to Seiji. I mean, when the Yapool tried to turn the humans against Ace/Seiji... he had to face them alone. Mirai had GUYS and some others, and by then they knew of Mirai's identity. I don't remember Zearth having any reveal. Jin's reveal... well since in Seven X there wasn't any big-ish task force, that didn't matter. And while Rei was not an Ultran, it was sweet how the Pendragon team still accept him even after knowing that who he really is.

And there's still aspects of the series franchise that remained the same. Like the climax plot point on the last few episodes to mark the end of the series. But I guess that applied to everything else. Kinda bland if a toku series didn't have the heroes fight the ultimate final boss at the end. A pity Zero didn't have that kinda growth. Hahaha~
