Some time before.... I did type that I wanted to make a proper post on 3rd Hospital. And that plan sorta went astray due to random muses. So here goes~

This 20 episode medical drama was about a hospital where they tried to combine the Eastern and Western medical practice in the same facilities and integrated it to better treat their patients. The drama focused on two doctors; Dr. Kim Doohyun, a neurosurgeon and Dr. Kim Seunghyun, an acupuncturist who were invited to work in the hospital and treat the patients at the hospital. Technically it's a scenario drama where the creators wanna see if the Eastern and Western medical practitioners can work together in the same hospital. Some issues are exaggerated for dramatic purposes.

Well... to start, this was an interesting premise. In reality as well... it was rare to actually find any hospital that do provide Eastern Medicinal treatment to patients. Mostly, you can find the Eastern Medical practitioners opening small shops to sell their herbal remedies or provide their services... but you rarely see them giving such services in proper hospitals. And most hospitals in the Asian region, with the equipment and such are mostly Western medicine dominated. And true enough, most Eastern/Oriental medical practice are viewed skeptically by the Western medicine. I mean... not just for Acupuncture, the herbal remedies you see at some odd Oriental shops, the Islamic treatment using the Quranic verses to heal people, and some of the other Oriental practices available all over the continent; due to the treatment can't usually be proven scientifically to see its efficiency... some of these practitioners are called quacks, shamans and such. Seldom were they ever acknowledged to be a Doctor specializing in Eastern/Oriental treatments. It would be interesting to see if these two sides of the medical practice could work together.

And admit it, it'll be boring if this was just like any other medical drama that have been out there. And so far, aside from Jin (and it's korean counterparts) you don't always have medical dramas that touch on modern medicine as well as oriental/traditional medicine at the same time~

So the focus was on the two doctors, who suspiciously had similar surnames. And both of them seemed to know each other. While Doohyun was already known as a very good neurosurgeon, Seunghyun was a troublemaker from the start. But you can't blame him, the dear~ On the day the hospital was supposed to be open officially, he had gone herb hunting on the side of a cliff. And on his arrival, a mother came over because her son was suddenly ill. Well now, once you've sworn to become a doctor... you can't ever abandon any patient that you happened to stumble to. And the hospital was still new, and the staff were mostly at the conference! Who else could have treated the child? So here comes Seunghyun, who didn't look like a doctor with his hiking outfit. And he did saved the boy.

But there was a problem. He used a scalpel to perform tracheotomy on the kid, which is... for an Eastern doctor, they weren't allowed to do so. So that brought along the 'punishment' onto Seunghyun. Aside from a brief suspension, he had to take part in the collab between the two medical factions. But it can't be so easy, can it? Even from the very beginning, it didn't seem they were serious about their hospital concept of an integrated medical treatment. What do you mean an Eastern doctor and Western doctor can't work on the same patient at the same time? But the collab didn't actually happened right away after the first incident caused by Seunghyun. It was due to a fight between the interns of both practices that was witnessed by the Health Ministers (?). Because a junior doctor under Seunghyun tried to show off to the Western interns on their opinions over a patient. Damn proud people~

So they were forced to collaborate (properly) though many of the representative were not that supportive of the move. Kinda sad~ (Especially considering Seunghyun used to specialize in Oncology and Hematology.) If anyone could know if it was possible for both sides to collab in treating patients, it'll be Seunghyun. Considering that he was exposed to both sides of medical practice. Well... alongside this intern Jin Hyein, probably. Whose father was an Eastern doctor while she's in neurosurgeon. So one half of the issues in the drama was about this clashing of two worlds.

And that was another thing. The relationship of the two Dr. Kims turned out to be more complicated than it seemed. It turned out that both of them were step-brothers and that Seunghyun was the real blood related son of Dr. Kim Ha Yoon. And it turned out that the reason of the change of profession was due to the death of his girlfriend who committed suicide after being told that the possibility of surviving her cancer was unlikely. And indirectly, that was caused by Doohyun whose explanation caused her to lose hope for survival. It turned out also that since then, Seunghyun had left home... never to see his family again until now. No one else knew of this relationship aside from the Director of the hospital, who later end up bringing their father into the confrontation. And when we thought it wasn't complicated enough... we have the love interests~ Read all about it yourself somewhere else XD.

I like Seunghyun from the very beginning. No... it's not because of Oh Jiho... though he did played his part by becoming Seunghyun. XD I find his cheekiness and rebelliousness so adorable. He can be so straight-faced...  he didn't even think anything perverse beside trying to recover his valuable pill that he managed to make from his trip to the cliff earlier that almost cost his life. (Seunghyun~~~~!) And his back story was hard not to be sympathetic about, being his father's son yet because of his father's misunderstanding with his mother Seunghyun being the receiver of his father's anger. And not helping the fact that because of this, Doohyun hated Seunghyun because he was not Ha yoon's real son. It was a bit hard on Seunghyun to hear Doohyun saying that he 'wished Seunghyun had died'. It was clear that Seunghyun was still hurt about it... and always believed that his real family didn't love him. Of which, he started to consider Lee Euijin and her foster father (his mother's second husband after she divorced and remarried?) as his only family. Too bad that the drama didn't manage to explore more on Seunghyun's relationship with his father et al. Even though, yes... in the end the parent-child reconciled. That scene during the lunch together was so hnnnngh I wanna give him a hug when Seunghyun was still so timid in front of his father even when his father asked to eat together. Like he was so afraid to have any hope to ever again be a part of his (real) family again. Oh my puppy~~~~ hngh!

I don't like Doohyun too much... since he was so cold at the beginning. Even when he started to show his tsundere side.... hard to favor him too much beside my lil puppy Seunghyun. And yeah.... the relation between Jin Hyein with the two... as well as Sooyoung's Euijin. I don't really fancy Euijin with Seunghyun it was obvious that it was one-sided and it's just a crush towards an older brother figure~ Though Euijin was still so cute~ It's that cute lil sister you can't help love and be annoyed with and pamper. I liked Seunghyun with Hyein since it's a fresh start after Jeong Euijin. I don't think it'll do Seunghyun good to be with another girl who happened to share the same name as your dead gf. And his concern for Euijin might just be a rebound for his dead gf... and I don't want Euijin to just be a rebound. And so nice in the end when she decide it's enough to let it remain one-sided and stop at that. Though I can't say I'm really fond of whom Hyein end up with. XD.

But yeah... I respect Seunghyun wishes.... I really do hope there's a sequel to this series because I can't get enough of Seunghyun muahahahaha  and I want him to get a girl that deserve him. (Even his BFF colleague got hitched what is this?) And I still want that father-son time!!!!!!! I want my family drama!!!!! with a touch of medical suspense drama!!!

And I'll shut up. XDDD Lazy to do any other character study for other characters beside Seunghyun (hahaha biased!). I rather write fanfics~ XP

Besides~ If you need to read a more thorough review, this post says enough. XD Glad to know I wasn't the only one wanted more story on Seunghyun's family story~
