Title: Aversion
Series: 태양의 후예 / Descendants of the Sun
Characters: Choi Woogeun, mentions of Kang Moyeon
Summary: He disliked her... from the very beginning.
----
He really didn't like her, Dr Kang Moyeon.
It wasn't even because she was pretty. Oh... but no, maybe? But he really didn't have any strong opinions on her, initially. Dr Kang was pretty, yes. That changed when that particular FPCON alert was sounded that day.

Dr Kang was a very headstrong woman. And reliable. He admitted that. In a way, that quality of hers can be good. But it also can be bad. Very bad.
While he didn't want to judge Captain Yoo's taste in women... he couldn't help be worried about his dearest superior officer. Captain Yoo was a good person, Dr Kang also was a good person. He knew that... and the two did look good together and they did work well together.
Still, a part of him couldn't help worrying. Because Dr Kang really was so similar to her.
Dr Kang Moyeon was really like his wife, Seona.
xxx
He could still remember the early years when they first got married. Seona hadn't minded it at first when he told her that he was a soldier. A soldier was like any other profession after all. It was still a stable job and a well-paid one. So there shouldn't be any concerns when it comes to money.
All that was well anyway... as long as his wife remained clueless of the true nature of his job. Because there was a big difference between the dangers a soldier would face in the line of duty, whether they were just a normal soldier... or a special forces soldier.
Sadly, it wasn't always so easy to keep secrets between spouses. Sooner or later, they will eventually find out about it.
When Seona first found out that he was part of the Special Warfare Command, they ended up in quite a big row. Because he got hurt quite badly. It was during the same mission when Captain Yoo—back then he was still a lieutenant—had been captured by terrorists. It was also the same mission that claimed Captain Kim's life when they went to rescue the special force officers who had been taken captive, including First Lieutenant Yoo.
While his injuries back then were not as bad as the injuries Captain Yoo had sustained during captivity, it was enough to make Seona worry about him. How could she bear the thought of letting her beloved husband continue facing so many dangerous missions because of his job? She couldn't!
Not to mention the fact that seeing the funeral for the late Captain Kim; and how much Captain Kim's wife and family had struggled afterwards, made her realize that the same fate could also happen to him and her in the future.
Since then Seona had always tried to convince him to quit the military and find a different job. When that didn't work, she tried to ask if it was possible for him to transfer to a less dangerous department. After a while, seeing that he still didn’t change his mind... she gave up trying to convince him.
But that didn't mean that Seona had stopped worrying.
Because of that, at times he felt so bad for his wife. Despite everything, Seona still remained married to him... even after knowing the full risk and the dangers that he could face while on duty. His wife could do that because she understood how important his job as a soldier was to him.
His wife, Chae Seona, was a very beautiful woman.
It pained his heart to imagine the possibility that he could make this young and beautiful woman a widow during one of the dangerous missions that he was given. Yet, even then, he was grateful that his wife had chosen to support his decision to remain to be a soldier.

Sergeant Choi let out a long sigh. He was dreading this moment.
It was something that he never wanted Seona to have to face, much less any other woman like her whose spouse happened to be a part of the military force. He glanced back towards the envelope placed on his dashboard.
It was Captain Yoo's will, written for and addressed to Dr Kang Moyeon.
He could already imagine what would happen right after he gave this letter to Dr Kang. Dr Kang would have thought that the Captain would return safely to her side after the last mission. When she received his call, she would've expected him to come bearing good news. Yet, the news that he was about to give was far from being a good thing for her to receive.
It would not be easy for her to accept this bad news. It was already hard enough for him and the rest of the Alpha Team to convince themselves that Captain Yoo and Sergeant Seo were truly dead. So if they themselves had difficulty accepting that fact, how could Dr Kang (and Lieutenant Yun) be able to accept this?
As any women would be when facing this kind of situation, this bad news would've made her very sad. And unfortunately for him, he was the one tasked to give her this unfortunate news.
As he thought. He really disliked Dr Kang Moyeon.
