Attended Bon Odori again this year. This years theme was on 30 year anniversary of the former premier, Tun Dr. Mahathir's 'Look Towards the East' policy. I've always known about this policy... never knew it had been around two years before I was even born. Whoa. Last year the theme was 'Thank you, Malaysia' since a lot of us did contribute something to Japan to help out during the Tsunami incident. Not sure about the government and the NGOs... but amongst our little ACG community we did raise some money to help out. So yeah~
It's a nice event. Yeah.... the original Bon Odori event had more meaning to it rather than a simple cultural event where people, families and friends gather to spend some time together and dance and exchange different cultures. So I really do wish some weeaboos learn some sense about this and don't assume, Japanese event = Anime is from Japan = Can cosplay/dress up. We've been telling this for a very long time after all...
The many years I've attended this event... even with fewer and fewer people are doing this, we can still see some 'leaving their brains at home' and do silly stuffs like this. I guess people like this wanted to attract attention so much, is it? And it's not even looking nice. I mean... days around here are often than not; hot and sunny most of the time and costumes and wigs aren't actually the best things to wear under all the sun, how'd you survive wearing those? I don't really mind the wigs or if you just wear wigs (though truthfully, I still had to question why since even on normal days... neon coloured hairs aren't exactly normal)... but really, if you don't have yukata... can't you just wear normal clothes? It's not compulsory to wear yukata... and those silk bath-robe looking clothes they call Happy/Happi(?) are not an alternative to yukata--and it most certainly not the kind of happi that I know. It's just... weird. And certainly wearing kimono, hakama and hanbok was outta the question. I mean... hanbok? Hanbok's not even from Japan... and both hanbok and kimino had too many layers of clothing and I did say about the local climate... so why?
And you thought wearing normal clothes wasn't that hard. /sigh.
And there's still people running around like mad during the dances. Some of my friends assume those was some drunk youths... but I stared at them half of them wasn't even that drunk (I doubt they even at legal age to drink and they're not THAT drunk when I scolded them) so I can't accept that excuse. I mean.. being excited is FINE... but haven't they considered their own (and other people's) safety? It's a BIG crowd gathering on the field for the dances and running around like that WILL cause accidents. And I'm not amused that the security did NOTHING to curb those 'excited' people. As always. Ended up shouting at those 'kids' to not 'play' around like that if they value their lives and limbs. I mean... not like I give a fuck if they ended up in a pile of limbs and had to be hospitalized when they had an accident. And all those people not dancing and taking pictures of people dancing on the fields! Seriously please be aware of the people moving around and not block their paths or run across the dancing people without caring. I think earlier (not like I haven't experienced this before, but this one kept getting even worse every year) I had almost crashed into many different photographers due to them suddenly popping up onto my path. Don't really cared about people taking pics or vids of me during the dances, but really... you not only endanger me, yourself, other people nearby while you senselessly taking pics without minding your way around... isn't that dangerous?
Honestly... that, tarnished my enjoyment. Thank goodness for friends.
