Title: Niente si asciuga più velocemente delle lacrime
Series: 빈센조/Vincenzo
Characters: Vincenzo Cassano/Park Joohyeong, Hwang Minseong, mentions of Fabio Cassano, Hong Yu-chan, Oh Gyeongja
Summary: Even as his heart still grieves, there are things that he needed to do.

---------------------------------------------------

He thought about the last funeral he attended. To which he only came near the end of it, because he couldn't bear having to sit through ALL of the ceremonies related. Because he was alone by himself. Because Fabio wasn’t around to keep him company. Because Fabio was the one lying inside the casket at that particular funeral.

"You should've waited until AFTER the funeral."

"Fabio told me to deal with it as soon as possible."

He lied. It wasn’t just because it had been Fabio's last order to him that he wanted to deal with Emilio as soon as possible. It's because he wanted to escape from facing the reality that his foster father, as well as his Boss, had truly passed away. Leaving him behind.

So dealing with Emilio was much better for him. At least he could channel his pent up emotions elsewhere. And not letting other people see him grieve for his foster father.

When he came to Korea, he thought that he'd at least get some peace for a while. Just retrieve the hidden gold stash underneath Geumga Plaza and then fly off to Malta and live in seclusion.

But then that accident happened. And the moment he woke up after the incident, he ended up standing before Lawyer Hong Yu-chan's tombstone.

When he saw how ill his mother had been all these times, he tried to convince himself that she won't die so soon. Even as her doctors didn't seem pretty optimistic about her survival, he wished earnestly that he could prolong the time he could be with his mother. He did manage it for a while... as his mother's condition had started to become better.

He never expected that their time together would be cut short so abruptly like this!

Part of him really wanted to just end it all that night. A bullet in the head each, that's all it takes... and everything would be over.
Yet that feat was too easy. And granting such easy deaths to the people who orchestrated his mother's death (as well as Cha-young's father and many others) was too merciful, even for him. Jang Hanseok and Choi Myeonghee needed to suffer a bit more before they could be allowed to die. That should be fair.

Vincenzo stepped out of his car before looking up towards the entrance of the Seoul Detention Centre.

Babel Group and Wusang. He needed to destroy both of them completely and let those two struggle to fight vainly to protect it before taking away their lives. He'll give them a far worse punishment to make them wish they could die over and over just to make up for it.

He heard the sound of the door opening and someone rushing over towards his direction as Vincenzo slowly looked up towards the person in front of him.

"Tae Ho! Oh my god, finally you come to see me! Please save me, I know I screw up last time but it's not my fault, I didn't know my mother would do that—please get me outta here!", cried the man opposite the glass barrier as Vincenzo's mouth twitched in annoyance.

"Didn't I tell you last time... that my real name is Vincenzo Cassano? And did you forget that I was the one who reported and put you here in the first place?"

"B-but—!"

This was annoying. Having to see Hwang Minseong again. But there was still a lot of things that he needed to do. Destroying Babel Group was one thing and there's also another matter...

"You probably would have heard about it by now, but my client... Oh Gyeongja has passed away. Initially, I wanted to get a retrial for her to clear her name but—" Vincenzo gritted his teeth as he kept reminding himself to resist slamming his fist on the glass barrier. "Nah, it's pointless to ask YOU for this. It wasn’t like you would even do it for me anyway. I shouldn't have come here—"
Vincenzo got up wordlessly before turning around to leave. And just before he could reach the door Hwang Minseong suddenly cried out to him.

"Wait! Tae—I mean, V-Vin...cenzo! I'll do it! Whatever you asked! I'll do it... please... as long as you could forgive me—!"
Hwang Minseong started sobbing again as he sneered at him.

"You can't do it. You won't! Aren't you a mama's boy? Would you even dare tell the court that you and your mum had framed the murder of your father to Ms Oh? Would you actually incriminate your own mother? Would you actually destroy your precious family reputation with your own hands?" Vincenzo shook his head at him before turning away.

"No, you won't."

"Yes, I will!"

Vincenzo froze in his steps as he turned to face Hwang Minseong again.

"Scusi?"

"I'll do it. I'll testify for the retrial if you want! I'll tell the judge that Ms Oh was innocent!" Minseong put his hand together in a pleading gesture. "Please, I don't want you to hate me... please..."

Vincenzo slammed his hand on the glass barrier as he glared towards Hwang Minseong. "Oh, you DO that. And maybe, my anger towards you would subside..."

Minseong was about to let out a sigh of relief before Vincenzo continued. "Even then, I still will not forgive you."

He straightened himself up.

"I'll be honest to you. Every time you touch me, it made me cringe to the bone. Every time I had to pretend to 'like' you, I had to keep reminding myself not to kill you on the spot. And do you want to know what other reason why I abhor your very existence?"
Minseong meekly nodded his head as Vincenzo hissed at him.

"Oh Gyeongja... was my mother. Because of what you and your mother did, my mother had to spend the last few years of her life rotting in jail. And even if you weren't involved in her death, you're still guilty of ruining her life! There's no way I'll ever want to have anything to DO with you!"

That last revelation caused Minseong to fall into a state of stupor. Vincenzo took that chance to glance towards the steel door behind Hwang Minseong. As he suspected, there was a spy from Choi Myeonghee's side; keeping an eye on Hwang Minseong.
So even if he could get Minseong to confess the truth at the retrial, there was a high possibility that Choi's side would try to stop him.

So how could he overcome this obstacle?

"I'll do it." Vincenzo turned his attention towards Minseong in surprise. "For real. I'll confess to everything about that day five years ago. I promise."

He turned around wordlessly as Minseong cried out again.

"I'm sorry! I'm really really sorry!"

Vincenzo turned his head slightly, as he saw Hwang Minseong crying in desperation. And he couldn't help recalling how the man had looked last time being so terrified after being scared off by the Geumga Plaza tenants who posed as zombies to him. He bit his lips.

"You shouldn't feel too devastated. You're not the one who killed my mother." He turned his eye towards the steel door again and manage to catch a glimpse of the man trying to monitor them, aside from the assigned prison officer sitting nearby. The man appeared alarmed at being spotted before making themselves scarce.

Vincenzo frowned. Without losing his sight on the man behind the steel door, he continued to speak. "You just happened to be indirectly involved in framing my mother for the crime she never committed and locking her in prison. Because of that, I should at least keep you safe until you can clear my mother's name."

He barely noticed Minseong's face cheering up a bit at his last sentence but he ignored it altogether.

"I had a policy against harming women and children but I swear if anyone dared to cross me, I'll make sure that they will regret ever daring to oppose me. And that includes snitches hiding behind stone walls."

Immediately the man who had been hiding revealed his terrified face again at him before hurriedly running away. Vincenzo smiled slightly at that.

That should do it for now. But just in case, he should get someone to identify that snitch still. He wouldn't allow Choi Myeonghee to sneak up on him unawares again.

He started to walk towards the exit again as Minseong called out to him.

"I'm sorry, Tae Ho—I mean, Vin—"

"Joohyeong." He could hear Hwang Minseong let out a gasp from behind him as he sighed. "Park Joohyeong. That was my Korean name."

And then he walked away from the room for good.
