I usually don't actively look for any Malay dramas to watch because most of the time there wasn't anything worth looking/watching since Malay dramas tend to only focus on some cliche'd Makjang plot. And even then I'm most likely lookup Korean Makjang compared to Malay ones. But this time, I gonna break that taboo... XD
This original VIU drama is a Malay adaptation of OCN drama of the same title, which tells about a grim reaper who ended up falling in love with a woman who happened to be able to see death. In which, for the Malay adaptation the grim reapers were changed into 'orang bunian', a term used in Malay, Indonesian and Bruneian folklores to refer to supernatural beings that are normally cannot be seen by the naked eye.
So far I'm watching the first episode and I can already tell that the adaptation is going well. It's definitely not like the usual Malay drama you an usually find and that was pretty refreshing. And already I liked the casting for the drama especially Sofia (played by Siti Saleha) which was the Malay version of Kang Ha-ram (played by Go Ara). She really do looked like Go Ara and the way she played her character also is quite on point. The actor that played 444 also not bad as well in terms of looks and acting. While the guy wasn't quite like Song Seunghoon, the actor was quite close to looking like him. This observation in itself was pretty impressive tbh because believe it or not, if I see these same actors in the usual Malay dramas I wouldn't really observe their acting as the usual Malay drama writing is always so uninteresting to me.
Already in the first episode I can see how the drama did well in recreating the original drama. There are quite a number of plot points/details that are changed since there's a lot of details in the original that can be hard to recreate in the Malay adaptation due to the taboo of filming any scenes that aren't quite 'Islamic'. But so far, the drama looks pretty good.
It'll be interesting to see how the Malay adaptation will proceed in terms of plot direction as well as the ending so I'll be looking forward to see it till the end.
